    Help with Calves???

Ive been training for a few years and while the rest of my body has gotten bigger over time I can't get my calves to grow.

Im 5'9 160lbs I work legs 2 a week, three if you count running, I was just wondering if anyone had any special work outs they could recommend for success I sure could use them.

How do you train them because they are a fast twitch fiber i train calfs twice a week blasting them the first day heavy and at the end of the week do lighter more repitions and burnout. I feel where you are coming from cus i have small calfs genetically they still look like pencils but i put 2 inches on them over a year by doing this on and off so best of luck if you can learn the secret i've just come to conclude that it has to be genetics but i continue to hit them hard

    Thanks for the reply liftw8t

I used to do a lot of high repitition calf presses on a leg press machine now i do more weight with 10 reps on the first day and on the second day I do seated calf raises until failure. Thanks I think iam going to take your advice and do heavy the first day and lighter until burnout on the second.

    Thanks for the help

calves are a VERY easy muscle group to train

heres a simple workout thats very effective, even if ur not the most genetically gifted (this will probably be better if uve got weak calves)

use a 45 degree leg press machine, place the balls of ur feet near the bottom ledge of the machine

use the 45 degree leg press as a calve raise

do 3 sets, rep range 12-15 reps to failure
    do this once a week

i promise ull c results, its all about training smarter and harder,

and BTW i do have great calves so im not some pencil neck giving u advice lol

^^^ i agree with that exercise but i would add a few different calve exercise to make the muscle work. i assume your gym would allow you to do different calve exercises!

Honestly, it's mostly genetics..No secrets! Be consistent, use good form and train to failure.

Try compound sets of standing calf raises to sitting calf raises and vice versa.

My calves never grew until I started doing no less then 30 reps or I keep repping till they are on the verge of cramping. I uses the most weight I can while keeping a full range of motion. I see no point in using weight that I can't go all the way up and down. Good luck

Unfortunately with calves it is mostly genetics. Very stubborn muscle.
