Best rule of thumb is take 220 - this is the theoretical maximum heart rate your born with and the theory is that every year you get older you drop one beat. So to find your maximum heart rate, just take 220 and take away your age.

Once youve done that, just calculate 60% and 70% of that number, just make sure you stay between those heart rate figures when you do your cardio.

As for a heart rate monitor, I use one (by Nike) that has a upper and lower limit, you just punch in your 60% and 70% figures - and if you go below 60%, or above 70%, it will give you a series of beeps to tell you your either working too hard, or need to jack it up a little more.

Hope this helps mate. Happy cardio :-)

Glad i could help mate, Yes thats it,

Just keep between those values, and keep going for over 20 minutes; after 20 minutes your body will start using bodyfat as a source (correct me if im wrong guys)

I personally do 30-40 mins, i put the treadmill on an incline so im doing a climb and keep at it by simply walking, on a slow speed (2mph), that gets me in the zone.

Oh, and before i do cardio in the morning I take my BCAA tablets on a empty stomach.

the "fat-burning" zone is not definite by any means.....several factors come in to play, and the threat of catabolism is a bit oversimplified, and largely determined by your diet....
