    Squats

    Free weight or smith machine?

Ive been seeing alot of guys using the smith machine for there squats, infact, i seem to be the only guy using free weight. Am i missing something or doing something wrong? Maybe some people prefair the smith, or maybe theyre retards?

It is weird that I actually hate smith machine because I feel it messes up my form. I like to use free weight and leg press and hack squat machines if I need assistance.

I use both... heck sometimes i use dumbbells and other pieces of apparatus.

Why guys like to limit themselves to one set path i'll never know.

this is going to be a stupid question so bear with me, when you use dumbells you just hold them at your side, correct?

Shoulder height, if doing a narrow stance... and directly in front of me if doing a very wide stance.

i prefer free weight but im having hip/lower back issues so i have been using the smith machine as of late. i find recently it has allowed me to really smash my quads without the normal low back issues that cut squatting short.

if you arent training squats for a meet then it cant hurt to rotate and give the muscle different stimuli

Free weights seem to work better for me. However, for hack squats I like the smith machine.
