    abs

I've never really trained abs like I should but would like to start. I train every muscle group once a week. Do most of you guys train abs once a week as well, or is it wise to train them more often? Could someone give me an effective ab workout that I could start with? I'm not the kind of person who would like to spend 30-45 minutes on abs so I'm curious if someone has a more brief workout?

    Thanks.

I train my abs on m/w/f. Your abs are muscles just like your chest , back, etc and still need to rest.

I rotate from the roman chair, to crunches on the ball, decline sit ups, etc.

Concentrate on slow steady movements instead of like 100 sit ups in 60 sec, if you know what I mean.

    Hope this helps...

i train abs twice a week

i find once a week is enough but i can get away with twice a week and recover

if i train them 3 or more times a week i sometimes find i cant fully recover

anyways really good workout that works well for me is and is REALLY EFFECTIVE

superset (meaning dont stop between them)
    20 hanging pikes
    40 crunches
30 lying leg raises off bench press
    30 double crunches
    20 hanging pikes
    30 decline sit ups

you can rest at the end of completing the superset, and then do the superset 1 more time if you feel you can

agree with above u need to do them slowly and concentrate on contracting ur abs when you do them

I use to do cross country, and have hated running ever since, does it really make that big of a difference for your abs?

I agree if you just want to see them but having strong abs helps in many other ways. Strong core helps with other lifts, balance, etc.

I am trying them twice a week, tuesday and friday and supersetting using heavy weights and 10-12 reps

If you do deadlifts, squats or other heavy lifts you get a lot of static ab work. I train mine once or twice a week and its usually 3 sets of 5-15 reps. During the Russian dominance in weightlifting they rarely did direct ab work and I'm pretty sure they had strong abs...

Abs abs abs, everyone wants abs. It's important to remember, the fat sits on the muscle. The bigger your ab muscles, you'll just push the fat out further! If you wanna see your abs you gotta lose that fat! As far as "training" your abs. You train them every day doing anything. Don't get me wrong it's good to do "ab" exercises sometimes, but not neccessary. Maybe once a week is all you need. They get a beast F-ing workout while you're doing your squats and deadlifts. You wanna hit them more? Try doing exercises that require a stupid amount of stabilization. Try dumbbell pressing on a swissball (your head and shoulders should rest on the ball, raise your hips and squeeze your glutes and abs, keep you feet together to make it harder.) Also the king of stabilization moves "The Overhead Squat" doing lifts that require more stabilization work your abs the most because that's what they're there for!!
