to answer your question those would be "micro tears" very small tiny tears to the muscle from stretching the fascia, they are harmless for the most part but wait until they fade until you hit that muscle group again

after looking at your pic again those seem to be near the knee, not the quads. So damn dude, you have me. Possibly micro tears, but maybe not

If they were from micro tears (I've never seen this or heard of this before, but just logicaly thinking..) wouldn't they cover a larger area and not be so dark and concentrated to a number of spots?
like discoloration of the muscle group area resembling a light bruise tint?

You may be slightly anemic. Have you noticed this when training in the past or is this a new occurrence?

I used to get Mild bruising on my back after a back workout, but it went away but that bruising looks pretty bad, is it painful?

doesn't look like any of the micro tears I have ever seen. looks different too. I would tell a doc about it for sure. take pics to show him. how hard was this workout? It would have to be a very big muscle tear to make a spot like that. at first I thought maybe you did leg curls seated and the pad pressed on the top of your quad... but that looks too close to the knee. take pics too doc. could be a blood sugar problem. my buddy who is diabetic gets bruises like that easily

My brother used to get bruising on his bi's even a bit worse after a heavy arm workout. Never seemed to bother him. I get what looks like black and blue on my traps near my upper back. Almost looks like broken blood vessels....
Could be small broken blood vessels, that's what it looks like on your legs.
