sqauting with a belt for back pain

My coach called me a bitch for trying to use a belt when sqauting for reps of 8, I usually dont use a belt but it was the first time in several months i did that much weight and i found my lower back extremely tight. My coach says that using a belt takes away from using my core, what do you guy think? do you use belts?

i use a belt, but always do core exercises 3 times a week. i also use it due to a herniated l4-l5 disc. well ask your coach this, if you already do deadlifts and core exercises why overload the posterior chain?

some people say not to use them, and they don't help ect ect
anytime I go over 315 must use
I've had many back injuries and if I don't put it on, my back says no go
better to use the belt then get hurt
there are core specific exercises you can do with less chance of injury

X2 all the way... anytime I squat 315 or better (most of the time) I use a belt anything less and I dont notice enough stress on my core to warrant it... and anything near 365+ I knee wrap... (free squats and below parallel mind you) Also I use a belt for SLDL on anything over 225

My medical doctor made me stop squatting and deadlifting, he convinced me after showing me how it hurts the spine each time you do theses movements, at first i was really mad because i loved to squat and deadlift but in the long run i rather be heatly and pain free then have a 400 pound squat.

I stop both movements about 2 months ago and i can say that the pain has gone away, now i do leg press with my upper back against the bench so the lower back does not feel pressure, and its all good.

I also have a few old nagging injuries that I'll have till the day I die. Therefore I cant do too heavy with squats or deads. Stevey what core exercises do you do?

theres hundreds of core exrcises to choose from. situps, leg raises, bridges, supermans, bicycles, hyper extensions, reverse hyper extensions, good mornings etc... i choose about 3 from a list at random 3 times a week and do 30 reps. works wonders.
