    Calorie Counters on Treadmills

    Hey

I'm sure some of you have seen those "calorie counters" they have on treadmills/stationary bikes/eliptical riders etc.

Do they actually count the number of calories your body has burner? Is it really accurate?

Unless you are inputting your lean body mass and the machine is recording your HR and oxygen consumption it cant tell you how many calories you are burning.

they just tell you a guestimate of what a person running at your specific weight that you entered would be burning given a set hr max that they have pre progrmmed. if you run is intense, i always add about 40 cals due to increased o2 consumption and ncreased hr. if im half assing the run then i minus 100 depending on what my hr is at the end of the run
