how many push-ups can YOU do?

me and my training partner were arguing about how many push-ups the average lifter can do. he thinks most guys in the gym don't do push-ups, so the average lifter can do about 30 in a set. i'm thinking it's gotta be higher. how many can YOU do in a continuous set? i'm at 75 btw. back when i first started lifting i was doing 15 lol.

last time I was sent away on a 3 day seminar and had no access to weights I did push-ups before bed just to be doing something, I'd do a couple sets of 50 then a couple sets to failure.

If I keep them up with practicing them, I'm military so their a necessary evil. I max at 89 in two minutes with my age its off the charts. Without my age its off the charts. Its an endurance exercise. I've notice that most lifters perfer a closer arm position than nonlifters. As closer focuses more on the pecs.

Keep in mind pushups unless graded are subjective. I've seen guys that claim to do astronomical amounts of pushups but never once do a single correct form pushup, sadly I see this more often than not. Especially for lifters as chest size makes it really easy to faint how far they can go down (that sound really bad).

Most I remember doing was 40, but I took care to keep perfect form. I'm not built for endurance!

I havent tried in a while. I did some the other night because i have been having some shoulder issues and felt like seeing how it would do. I did 60 and my shoulder was killing me. I think its just time for some more rest. It has already kept me out of the gym for the last week other than my leg day.

I can do in the 50's. But when I was you pups age, I was over a hundred then started by putting a cinder block on my shoulders. (I was a helluva lot lighter then too... about 160 then to 230 now)

Now have your workout partner throw a 45lb plate on your back as you do them.

I used to be able to do a decent amount in ninjutsu.. Havnt been for a year so i dropped off...

I ll have to give it a go again soon... Pushups involve alot of core work so its not the same as just having a strong bench and tri's...

Start a comp with vids :P

I read this question and was looking in my log book, I was trying to increase the bench weight and started with 26 and got myself up to 79. So 79 is the most I could do? or have done lol

ehh, i just do push-ups for fun. i like to keep beating my old record, and hope to get over 100 in a set soon. it's more of an ego thing, than for workout purposes lol.

I was going to say the same thing, I see "push ups" sometimes and just laugh. You know where they go to about 6 inches off the ground real fast and think that is a push up.

I do a lot of pushups but not flat with my feet about 3 feet off the ground.

On level ground I could bang out about 40-45 in one set I am guessing. I am not that strong naturally.

No idea how many I could do in 2 minutes never tried that before.

you guys ever have fun betting someone they can't do 5 chinese pushups, and then watching the SOB come up with a bloody nose?

or what about hand stand pushups? when I was taking tae kwon do in highschool, I used to be able to knock them out (again, at around 160 compared to now). But them are some tough buggers.

what is a chinese push-up? i can do handstand push-ups with my feet on a wall, but i don't like 'em 'cause the blood rushes to my brain too much.

IN the Military 2min test I held the unit record for about 2 years at 105, all good form (they get deducted if they arent) finally got beaten by a mate who did 120. Although I was 140 soaking wet at the time...
