    Headache during squats

So I was doing squats today and immediately after my second set, I had a terrible headache and it completely ruined the rest of my workout. It's never happened to me before, but I'd like to avoid it happening again. Any ideas why this happened?

It's more than likely a build of blood pressure in your head from holding your breath. It's something to look out for and try to avoid. I know you have to hold your breath but maybe this time you held it a bit longer than usual.

Amen. did you do any type of warm up before hand? Being loose and remembering your breathing is SUPER important!! I can lift more weight and it's easier when the timing of my breathing is correct. It makes all the difference for me.

Had the same thing happen to me awhile back and almost positive it was caused from holding my breath.

SoI had a similer situation happen to me when I was finishing my last rep on leg presses. With one exception,my headache was so intense and painful I just staggered out of the gym. the folowing day headache was still unmanageble so I went to the ER Dr. heard my story and was concerned as well so he ran CT scan on brain, then a spinal tap,(by the way if you have never had a spinal tap,,DONT!!!"FRIKKIN SCARRY!! outcome was good no blood in brain or spine..Whew!!
However headaches have continued for three weeks now non stop..I have since seen my primary Dr. and had MRI done on brain and spinal core MRI is much more detailed. Results on 11/01/10

My symptoms have interfered with every aspect of my daily life, cant do more than super light excercise without headache throbbing so bad it untolerable.I am hoping it is just a pinched nerve in my neck or something like that.Luckily this time of year is slow for my line of work as I am unable to work with this constant headache...
Any one else have lasting headache...

I went and saw my primary care who was a ex body builder and runner up mrs olympia or universe back in her day. She checked me out and said it was a pinched nerve in the neck. I still get head aches from time to time when in the gym. so hopefully its the same for you.

I do light cardio for about 10 min before I start lifting and I usually do a warmup set on my big movements (squats, deads, bench). I'll definitely have to monitor my breathing more closely because I was worthless in the gym after that point and ended up just calling it quits for the day.

Well i am fvked!!! I just found out today that i have a paracental disc bulge which causes severe neuroforaminal narrowing with impingement on the exiting nerve roots.. In plain talk I am screwed!! I have appointment with neurosurgeon to set date for surgery... So much for dropping to 13% bf by January, looks like it might take a little longer now considering recovery downtime..What a drag...At least they found the problem and it can be fixed...

Dont know yet, just got the news today from my Doc..He said i will spend a few days in hospital after surgery but able to walk out...I will find out the specifics later this week after talking to neurosurgeon.. Hopefully I just have to get bone cut/shaved or whatever.so that it is not rubbing my spinalcord..not sure exactly what it is gonna go down yet...

bummer, sorry to hear that man. Just keep your diet SUPER clean and when you get back on the horse your muscle memory will bounce right back. Best of luck to you.

better yet see how much bf% you can drop by simply diet alone, I mean it isnt like you have any other options.
