    Deadlifting and stomach pain

Alright guys i have a problem with my stomach during deadlifts. I wear a belt and keep it somewhat tight. When ever i deadlift heavy weight for 5-6 reps my stomach pushes out pretty hard and feels like its expanding to the point where its going to tear. When i wear my belt really tight it sometimes comes undone too. I believe i have pretty good form but at the end of my set it literally feels like my stomach expanded and tore. Any thoughts on this?

Ahh glad im not the only one. I think im going to try sucking in my stomach next time i DL and tighten my belt up. Its horrible because the pain stays with you for a while lol and i feel like i can do another set but it feels like my my stomach is going to rip in have and im going to start spitting up organs.

Next time i DL im just going to try and suck in my stomach and see how that goes.

most likely the problem is that you use a belt, i own a belt and use it for competition and max attempts only, and only sometimes at that. And even when i bring my belt to the gym i will make sure to do a few sets without out the belt and finish with extensive ab work. If you always use a belt, you are not letting you stomach muscles develop, over time your arms and legs become stronger and you can deadlift a higher weight, but you abs havemt kept up and are behind. Deadlifts are a very good ab workout and you should not feel stomach pain.

So my advice would be stop using the belt, let your abs catch up and you will be able to lift a higher weight without a belt and you wont feel any stomach pain.
The fact that it feels like your stomach is exploding outward is because you are not able to keep your abs tight and everything falls out. This is similar to how starving african children have a bloated stomach because their body feeds on their muscle mass as a last resort and due to their lack of abdominal strength everything just falls out.

I see guys in the gym who wear a belt every time i seem them there for every exercise, this a poor choice because your abs will not grow and it will bite you in the ass at a later date.

Man sounds like a hernia to me.....I've never felt that pain before. My bro had a hernia from dead lifting and he said he had that same type of pain that was persistent long after the workout was over. He had to have surgery but he also was about 8 years older than me at the time and on cycle....lol

Are you building up your abs? and sides? The muscles around your gut is your natural belt. I'd seriously concentrate on those before anything more happens. You can't deadlift or squat heavy without sufficient abs. It's crazy. Weighted leg raises will do it. Work on them like any other muscle and you'll see them pop out. Then you have some decent mass there. Also handy when getting punched
