Pulled a muscle in my A@@

So I usually squat with the smith machine and being 45 years old I probably don't squat deep enough I probably hit a 90degree angle most of the time and my normal heavy squats is about 330 pounds. With that said I went to a new gym tonight and it had a machine I have never used so I figured what the heck. It looked a lot like this one.
So first let me say it also wouldn't let me squat very deep on it. I couldn't figure out how to adjust the dang thing either but I was able to get close to a 90 degree angle. So I threw 300 on it and WHOA it went up too easy. So I kept adding weights each set. Holy crap I did two sets of 6 with 540 pounds on it. I keep telling myself this can't be right but I had 2 each 100 pound plates and a 45 pound plate and a 25 pound plate on each side. So it has to be the way the machine is designed to support my back thats letting me lift so much I figure. Anyway now its been a few hours and I think I pulled a muscle in my left ass cheek.

It's called a hacksquat. The weight from this to a regular squat will be a lot different. You're pushing it up at an angle instead of straight up. You're also not using all the stabilizers you would with a regular squat. It does relieve a lot of pressure off the back tho.

Are you sure you're just not sore from using a new exercise that may have hit the glutes harder?
