    Bench Press Question

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. I was bench pressing yesterday with a partner and I was trying to keep up with him and my arms seemed to give out way too early and I wasn't pumped in my chest but my arms sure were. Which may also be the reason why I havent seen much growth in my chest but my arms have went from 18-19".

Im 6'2 and half decently long arms. I hold the bar with my pinky finger on the ring. Should I be holding the bar wider since im trying to put as much size on my chest as possible? Any advice is welcomed ...

That grip does sound way to close - I'm 5'11 and put my middle finger on the ring.

I would agree. I go ring finger on the rings and I'm 5'4 with short arms. Work your way out slowly about a finger at a time.

Wider grip would probably help...I'm 5'9 and go ring finger on the ring though. That seems to work for me, I get great chest development from that.

Also, make sure your arms are 90 degrees perpendicular to your body. It's easy to bring the elbows in if you have stronger tris, and this makes you hit your tris more when you do this.

Never look past the mind-muscle connection either...

For chest, the wider the better... You can always do other exercises later in your workout to hit tri's...

the wider the grip the more it works your chest and te less it works your arms.. i am 5'10" and my pointing finger sits outside the ring.. the rule of thumb is this.. take the bar and lower it until your arms are at 90 degrees.. it is different for everyone depending on arm length, should length etc.. but your forearms ahould be at 90 degrees... perefectly parellel to each other.. at your heigh i would recomend doing the way i do it.. you will notice you can not lift as much as you normally do at first.. but eith in 2-3 months you will be 20% stronger than you were before.. MINIMUM!!

You're way too close. I'm 6'4 with an 84" wingspan and I put my pinky on the rings as a close grip bench. So even if you don't have the wingspan I have, with your height, you probably have at least a 72-74" wingspan. With your wingspan you are currently doing a tricep focus bench. Go wider, young man! LOL!!! Index fingers on the rings.

sounds like your flareing out your elbows and causing your arms to do the work, form related imo
