    lift before or after work?

hey everybody, new gut with a new guy question.
my schedule. classes from 9 am to 3 p.m. mon -thurs (history major) work from 5 p.m. to 1:30 ammon to fri. 3 kids pregnant wife, mother in law lives with me.
i havent ran or lifted since i left the Marines Nov of 09.
im ready to hear the "eat clean", because i havent been, i dont even like fast food anymore, thats how much ive been eating it, sodad and red bulls too.
5 fot 8, 207, big ass gutt, lol.
so, i am not, and have never taken any steroids, the only supplement ive ever bought is hydroxycut, and i didnt like the way they made me fill, bottles 2 years old.(those still good?).
so after all that damn vomiting of the mouth (or fingetips i should say)
SHOULD I WORK OUT, BEFORE SCHOOL,AFTER SCHOOL, BEFORE WORK,OR AFTER WORK? Gentleman, i hate to sound like an idot, but the last thing is, how LONG should i be working out, as you can see from above, i have very little "free" time, and i have to make it last....last thing, im not blanning on doing anything untill i get down to 180. lbs, is this a good taget weight or should i set a time limit instead 3 months,6months,etc.
thank you in advance for your assistance, and if i posted in the wrong area please inform me.

Whatever schedule would best get you into consistently working out... Dont set yourself up with a schedule that you know you will skip out on in a few weeks. With that said, splitting your workouts and doing part in the morning & part in the evening will give an extra calorie burn. But I wouldnt say this is needed to start.

Dont worry about target weights or timelines, go by bodyfat percentage and keep at it until you reach your goals. It dont matter if your 180lbs, if your at 25% bf your still considered obesse. I would start by suggesting you get a "real" bodyfat test done. From there you can better estimate how much you would need to lose to reach your personal goals.

He said it best. There have been studies to show slight hormonal increases during certain times of the day but from where you stand consistency is key. Good luck and pick a time where you are most motivated and able. You workouts shouldn't be that long maybe 45 minutes or so look on this site for a good beginner split or ask one of our members.

just start with a plan man, and find out what works for you, why dont you get some thoughts typed out here and we'll guide you in the right direction, I mean I could write a full exercise regime for you and you could be totally overwhelmed by it and throw in the towel within a couple of weeks ( no disrespect), just start slowly and work your way up is my adfvice. although hit the diet hard it will wonders on its own, get that posted up and we can help out with that too.

in answer to you questio though I prefer to workout before work at about midday, im awake and loosened up with plenty of energy.

if you're just getting back into lifting i'd give your body some time to acclimate to the change. i wouldn't go full on into a 5 day split routine. honestly, i'd do some circuit training for 45 min / 1 hour every other day between school / work and the other days in between i'd do some low impact cardio in the morning on an empty stomach in the morning [for a couple of weeks]. granted you've got kids / wife / "the nag" to worry about so that's first priority anyways.
