Cardio will be harder on a leg day since your muscles are already going to be taxed. I don't see any problem with it if you wanted too. I would usually just do cardio or leg day seperate but that is just me.

Wouldn't doing Cardio on Leg Day be overtraining?

I would avoid it if you can.

    Simple warmup is fine.

Avoiding cardio after leg day is pretty much a myth. Just another excuse people came up with to avoid cardio.

As an 'addition' to my leg workout, once I have finished my resistance work I jump on a treadmill at the highest incline, speed at 5km/h(3mph) for 20 mins. I find it a great benefit to calves, hams and glutes. And my heart rate hit approx 85-90% Max too!

Not sure I would want to do a HIIT style of cardio afterward though!

IMO it depends on what you do. I don't believe its a myth. If you fatigue all your major muscle groups such as hammies, quads, calves, etc. then it puts more strain on the joints. Again this is my opinion and didn't research it or anything. If you do end up doing cardio after legs I would suggest something such as bike or elliptical since those are both easier on the body (not as much impact force on joints).

what are you talking about??? the 11th Commandment is "Thou shall not run after leg day".. hahaha.. i hate cardio.. it sucks.. i come up with excuses not to do it all the time.. probably why my BF is in the high teens or low twenties though

To the OP.. i have made the mistake of doing leg day a few hours before rugby training and have hated myself for it every time.. for me i just cramp up WAY easier.. like i could probably do real low intensity.. but if i try and run 50 meters i cramp up right away.. its best to do cardio BEFORE you go to the gym for leg day if you can.

Leg day is the one day that I never do cardio on, but it's not for any technical reason. It's because my legs are too spent and will barely even carry me anymore!

I prefer recumbant bike for my cardio after leg training.

I used to just call it quits after legs day leaving cardio out but just started adding it in. 30 mins moderate paced incline treadmill (65% max HR)

Thing I've noticed.. I'm getting pretty intense DOMS now. My legs are always sore the day after squats but they are super sore and tight the following day (today!!)

Now I have to monitor and measure to see if it's overtraining them or not.

I always liked doing cardio alternating between either recumbant or regular spinning bikes ( which I ride in and out of the seat). When I do recumbant bike cardio I always catch hell from the guys at the gym.. They ask if I am pruning my rose bushes later and all that crap LOL.

Anyway why I like doing cardio on the recumbant is because the gym where I go they have the bikes that you can set at a specific wattage. So I will ride for half and hour at 160 watts at 95 rpm cadence and record my heartbeat at 10-20-30 minutes then by noting change in my heartrate I can tell when I have not recovered adequatly or am getting sick etc. I feel this is a great tool as it is more accurate than just going by how you feel.
