    issues deadlifting

I am currently using the 5/3/1 program and was supposed to do 95% of my working max for deadlift which would be 400lbs for atleast 1 rep. I could not even get the bar to move off the ground. Last week I got 380 for 6 no problem but whenever I try 400lbs I fail miserably. I have no idea why this keeps happening, any ideas?

this is a hard question to answer mainly for the reason that we cannot see you deadlift. A video would help a lot. Im swaying toward probably a form issue.

Well using the 5/3/1 your last deadlift should have been 380 for 3+ reps how did that go? Also, your deadlift about a month ago should have been for 395 for 1+ rep how did that go?

last week i was able to get 380 for 6 and a month ago i got 395 for 3. this has happened to me twice before. i will work my way up to 400 lbs, fail terribly and then have to ramp back up again.

If you can get 395 for 3 you should be able to do 400. Maybe you're psyching yourself out? If you're going to stay on the 5/3/1 then when you set yourself back, set yourself back further. It will take longer to get to your goal, but it will help. Or consider trying a diff program, I like 5/3/1 though. You may have not started yourself out back far enough. In 5/3/1 it's not uncommon to be getting 20+ reps for some of your lifts. It's all about a slow progression.

you could be right about psyching myself out. whenever i get to 400 i always get nervous about the weight.
