Never really see it mentioned in leg workouts, but I hit legs today and had an extra workout partner, so at the end of my squats i put 500lbs on and did a set of 3 negative box squats.
I'm sure the DOMS are going to be unreal tommorow.

hmmmm... not sure if i would feel comfortable with this since my/your legs seem to just "give out" when to much weight is on them.. where as bench i can sort of slow it down.. and stopping 400lbs on bench would be much easierr then stopping it on squat since squat your spotters are standing under it rather than over it..
on another note i have seen some guys do negatives on pull ups.. and they swear by them.. they load up that belt thing with weight climb up there and slowly go down then repeat.. their back is proof enough that it is working
it was difficult to actually do the negative slowly, probably about a 2-3 second negative till the box took the complete weight, It was very hard to resist the urge to do the squat at a faster pace. I do feel somewhat safer with the box under me though to take any weight I can' handle. Ive done negative pullups before, When i was in the military whe i was younger that was actually the way i first got strong enough to do pullups
I don't think this is a good idea from an injury standpoint!
I have done negative smith machine squatts...
Not real negatives... Forced negatives at the end of the set...
TBH I don't get how you managed to get up with the weight... Even with a spotter lifting you...
Along the same lines - what about half squats from the bottom? Set the barbell about halfway with a lot of weight, crank it up, then set it down under control. Any benefit?
Haven't done them in a while, but I used to use the Smith for squat negatives.
^^^ get any knee pain from those?
