anyone out there with a bench around 400? I have a question
Anyone with a bench around 400lbs? If so how much do you do on incline on dumbbells for a set of 10 or so. Im just curious because i havent been benching in a long time and doing mostly dumbbells. i just wanna get a rough estimate. On dumbbell incline im doing 120lb dumbbells for 10 reps. they only go to 125 at my gym i havent tried thoughs yet

IMO it can be very different. The movement is different. I personally never really use them. My bench is around 425 and i have done the 150s for 10 but i have a buddy i work out with that benches just under 400 but i have seen him push the same.

True^. I've not benched in ages, but last time I was benching regularly I could only get to 315 for a double, but, I was and can move 120 Dbs for double figure reps on an incline

I dropped flat bench and all shoulder presses (other then scott press), best thing I've done training wise. I was always getting shoulder injuries and tweaks while lifting. I 've been feeling great since making the change. At 40 years of age, I really want to enjoy training hard for as long as I can...which will be a long time if I'm smart.
Chest -weighted dips, declines, Db press
Shoulders - side raise, side raise Glass style (heavy: 75s) and scott presses:high reps
I only pick one of the above fpor each workout.
works for me.

yeah i think im gonna start benching again i quit a couple years ago after going pretty heavy for awhile after i got up above 400s it started giving me joint problems i maxed out in the mid 400's. its been a stressful year and i took a year off from lifting recently i put on about 70lbs of fat and lost about 50lbs of muscle. i put 14 inches on my waist when i came back i could barely use the 30lb dumbbells it was horrible. i started back about 3 months ago i already lost 12 inches from my waist. and stregnth is coming back. i really would like to get my bench up to 450 but in order to do that i guess my dumbass will have to start benching heavy lol. it was just mentally when i first started back i had i of started benching in the beginging with my strength that low i probably would of got discouraged and given up. Its depressing going from tossing around over 400 to struggling with 135

Dude, I know what you're at. I never got close to a 400 pound bench even at my peak, but I know what it's like to stop lifting for one reason or another and then try to make a comeback. I've done it several times and it never gets easier. Knowing you used to be able to lift heavy and then finding yourself back at the beginning is a frustrating feeling. I've been going through the same thing recently. After six years of minimal training I've been making a comeback for six months now and even though the strength comes back pretty fast at first, it never seems fast enough. As a result, I've kind of rushed into a test/D-bol cycle hoping to get some of that lost strength and muscle back. I know it's the wrong approach, but hell...what can I say? Impatience got the best of me.
I wish you the best of luck bro, and know that there's plenty of guys in your situation and that you will get back there. My philosophy has been don't rush it! Even though I want to pick up 100-pound dumbells and start doing shoulder presses like there's no tomorrow, I know it's not going to happen so I make peace with whatever weight it is I'm lifting and just concentrate on form, knowing I'll get back to 100 pound DB shoulder presses one day. My impatience got the best of me when I decided to do a cycle, but I still don't try to lift more than I can handle. I bide my time knowing that I'll get back there eventually. And you will too. Be proud that you're one of only a small portion of the population that can do 400+pound bench presses, and know you'll get back there in time. Hell, I've never even benched 300! My chest is my weak point and I know I'll never bench that much. But still, I keep on keepin' on knowing I'll get back to where I used to be sooner or later.
Good luck!

before my shoulder surgery,i was benching 405 and i used heavy db presses as my isolation lifts esp incline, plus on arm days i would use close grip decline bench for tricep strength.that made me stronger and the one excercise that helped me the most was DB floor presses
