Question A random question about soreness

Hi there, I wasn't sure what to put in the title so I'll try and explain...I've been training for 4 years and I've always understood that rest is very important and I've always made sure I have rest days between workouts to insure my muscles have time to repair.

I really love it when you go to the gym and have an amazing workout and then wake up the need next feeling sore because you broke down the muscle fibres enough for them to grow back. If I'm not sore the next day then I'm not happy because I obviously didnt workout hard enough but 9 times out of 10 I am always sore.

And here comes the question, there's one thing I've always wondered and wanted to ask, I trained legs two days ago and legs sometimes take more time then other muscles to repair because they're so big compared to the other smaller muscle groups, my legs were 100% sore all day yesterday which was to be expected after a 45 minute high intensity killer workout (I try to train dorian yates style with HIT - I believe in his philosophical approach to bodybuilding) and then I've woken up today and today I have scheduled chest/biceps and afterwards I like to do 20-30 minutes run as I am also cutting at the moment but the thing is my legs are still sore for 2nd day in a row which sometimes happens.

So the question is would you go to the gym and train chest/biceps with sore legs and would you run with sore legs?

I'm kinda thinking the running is defo out the window but chest/biceps isnt exactly using legs, your sat down most of the time?

What do you guys think? Sorry for long winded explanation, I talk a lot in real life and I guess it comes across online in text format also.

I really appreciate your replys though as I'm interested in your opinions and what you do in this situation?

P.S. I'm not on steroids or taking any supplements at the moment other then vitamin tablets incase you need to know, my diet is 100% clean, I eat 8 times a day and I consume 375g protein, 130g carbs, 88g fat (cutting diet) and just have one whey protein shake for PWO.

    Thanks in advance.

No problem with working another body part/group. Try doing a different cardio routine, like swimming or the elliptical or cycling. Then, go back to running.

The cardio of running or x trainer will actually help to get rid of the pain. When I started to do cardio straight after leg sessions and the following day, my legs responded really well. I put on 3cm in 1 month with adding alot of cardio. I spent years not doing it because I thought it would harm growth. Just got to work out what is best for you.

I like to run as a part of my training regime as well. The thing when you are cooking your legs is to find the balance of when to run. I will say that if you are hitting your legs hard enough, it will impact your run. If you lighten the load on your legs, you can run more regularly. I always run when I am sore from legs, but sometimes I am unable to finish what would normally be a fairly easy run. Like auslifta stated, it will help clear the soreness. Sometimes I pick another type of cardio for the next two days then, go back to running until I do the legs. Good luck.

The other thing I forgot to add... is to watch for over training. Hitting your body super hard and running hardcore will lead to overtraining faster than any other combination. I actually know signs of this and have to watch for injuries. So train hard, but also smartly.
