Today was my first day with it so, I think it was possible I went too hard for the one minute cause I was at the point of fainting and no way I would make it 2 mins at that pace, LOL........(should of never had my cheat meal (white rice and chicken) 2 hours before, I feel like shit, live and learn I guess)

i do 1 min on 30 seconds off but it depends on your level of fitness, what your doing is fine but as your fitness improves, your rest times should decrease and high intensity times should increase

I don't know if there's an EXACT formula for HIIT Training. As long as you're doing short intervals of super hard (sprints) and rest periods, you should be G2G. The most important part is to push yourself as hard as you can. When I first started I did 30sec on and 90sec off, this was literally all I could handle. Again, the point is to push yourself everytime with intervals of high intensity sprints followed by a rest period. I only do 20 min of HIIT. IMO 30min is going a little overboard, but that's just me.

On a side note: If your 1 min high intensity is only a run, I would back it down to 30 sec of sprint. I see a lot of people that try to get that 1 min in, but if they're honest with themselves after about 30 sec their pace slows, or they pace themselves a little slower to make sure they can finish the one minute. Either way, IMO I think it's wrong. I would much rather go balls to the wall at 12-14 mph for 30 sec followed by rest than 9mph for 1 min followed by rest.

1min hard out sprint. **** me lol id be dead. id need 5 mins to recover.

i think up to 30 and then rest for a min or 2.

i did do hill sprints. took about 12 seconds and then rested for 60-90 seconds it was brutal

I totally agree with this, if you can sprint all out for 1 minute kudos to you but if you are cheating yourself I would lower it, personally the highest I like going is 30 seconds and even that takes me a good 2 minutes to recover from. A 1 minute sprint is roughly 400m, have fun recovering from that within 2 minutes and getting the same time/distance that you did the first time.

    I LOOOOOOOVE hill repeats.

For HIIT just go as long as you can maintain 90-100% effort. Then rest a minute or two.

Back when I was in shape I would do 75 second 400's with 35 second rest. I shudder at the thought of attempting that now. But I'll get it back one of these days

HIIT also known as tabata! Best training is Xx2 amount of max effort with X recovery! 2min on with 1 min off, 20sec on with 10sec off and so on and so forth! Id never do 2min of max effort because max effort run is maybe a minute to me. I used to train this way to run the 400m(57sec pr) and did 20sec on with 10 sec off for 8 rounds. I do it with pushups, pullups, and air squats! Its a great way to help master your bodyweight!
If you have a rower around the best tabata/hiit workout on it is 1min/30sec for 10 rounds imo!

I agree that to keep up HIIT for 20 mins then 1min all out is too long, you should be beat up after 45 secs. Rest is really up to you but I keep mine at about 60-75 secs. That allows me 10 intervals in 20 mins. Factor in warm up and cool down and you've done about 30 mins.

If your treadmill isn't fast enough, shorten your recovery time or do your HIIT on a different bit of kit.
