I have always been told not to rotate. Straight up, striaght down. If you have proper form and not to much weight your shoulders should be back anyway

Exactly...the ROM is straight up and down..
I switch it up with very heavy load bb shrugs and lighter weight faster movement peak contractions, strip sets etc
    Works perefectly :-)

to mix it up every few weeks from shrugs and deads

upright rows if done with correct form

a high cable row pulling to the shoulder area with slow and strict form will build the lower part of them nicely

Do you do these from low row cable machine and just pull up toward the face area kinda like face pulls?

I'm fortunate that we have side by side adjustable height pulley machine, don't know the correct name lol the one you would typically do crossovers, flys etc on, I put dumbells at bottom to rest feet against and set myself back for tension across whole ROM, get the rope and set to shoulder height or slightly lower and pull, straight bar also works nicely with close or wide grip, I like to incoporate static holds on each rep and if you even stand there now and pull the movment while squeezing traps you should immediately feel it,

    Very effective exercise i.m.h.o

I squeeze my traps pretty hard as the weight comes up and my back stays straight. Maybe i'm doing something wrong. I'll look up proper form for it

Just deadlift heavy. Your traps will grow. Heavy shrugs in a powerrack so you don't have to pick it off the ground too. Anything else is just not heavy enough for growth.
