Thread: Workout diary???
-
Who uses them and why, or what are your reasons for not using them.
My self personally I have never used one, and prefer to go into my workouts and lifts the max I can on that day regardless of what I did the week before, obviously always striving to go bigger, but don't keep a diary just go to each work out by feel and take my muscle to failure regardless.
Its something I thought about recently. The only guys ive seen using them are the typical PT's that barely look like they lift. I'm not saying there the only people using them, but is it too much of a distraction? I'm a big fan of getting in the gym go hard, get lost in focus and leave.
I understand how monitoring progression is important though, so I'm a little confused about this.Last edited by auswest; 05-21-2012 at 08:44 AM.

I like to keep my previous weights lifted on my phone and just bring it to the gym with me to record my current workout. The only shit thing is that I look like the dick in the gym who is doing more texting than lifting.

I used to use one religiously, then i stopped a couple of years ago and things worked out pretty well. I focussed more on my diet, rest and the proper form during the exercise. When i was obsessed with the numbers, i'd get down on myself if i had a bad session, or if the weight or rep didn't go up a bit. I found that hitting the number was more important than feeling the reps. I cheated here and there etc etc. So i stopped recording.
I might return to tracking the weight (sometimes i forget what i did last time), but probably not the reps. But then again, sometimes i like lifting a bit less or more by accident and just going with it. It mixes it up a little. I have no idea if there is any benefit to that, some people seem to think so.

I use an app on my phone, i find myself in the same situation as recusant stated and i feel like its more about just beating my last numbers now. I think for alot of peeps though it is more of a tool to determine track and monitor your goal which has it benifits for some peeople. I am considering dropping it for a few weeks to c how it goes after reading recusants though.
