    compound vs isolation

    Age: 19
    Height: 172cm
    Weight: 75kg
    BF: 12 - 14%

I'm a huge fan of compound lifts, like deadlifts, squats and bench
The past month i have progressed heaps in these lifts which im proud of
    Am currently deadlifting 130kg X 5 reps

I am putting on some size and gaining heaps of strength
However another 'gym goer' maybe a year older than me, spends at least 2 hours doing little isolation exercises like curls
I have to admit he does look better conditioned than me and has that bit extra size
Are compound lifts better in the long run for gaining maximum size??
At the end of the day, I'm aiming for size and definition, but not at the stage yet where im ready to cut down
    thoughts??

Do what works for you bro! Compound movements with proper form are the building blocks, do u know this guy? He could be in training for a comp or trying to strip down, or u could just be seeing him at the gym for his second time for the day haha, find what works for you and stick with it, once u get more experienced then u can play around with partials and that.

    Hope that helps

Compound exercises are generally for overall power and explosion for an athlete, but they are good for bulking too, isolation exercises are just that, good for concentration on one muscle at a time, good for sculpting and definition, however with respect to weight can also be a bulking exercise as well.

Compound usually gets you faster results since it hits more than one muscle group but I always add a isolation exercise or two on some of my days. Isolation seems to peak the muscle alot more too, well guess it depends what exercise your doing.

It's never about compound vs isolation in BB, it is rather about how to incorporate both into the same workout.
