No more Squats or Leg presses

    What do I do?

I just came back from Dr. My knees have been bothering me bad lately. Had xrays and is bone on bone and arthritis has already started. Its so bad I am being told I should be trying to avoid stairs. I played ball yesterday and I was crippled for the whole day yesterday. I absolutely tore it up too. Makes it so hard for me to stop playing basketball when you are good at it. Its really disheartening.

I am going to focus on heavy prowler (motion is much easier on the knee) pushes, machines for quads and hammys. I am currently on a cut but I think I am going to try and lose some muscle also. My body just cannot handle carry the weight anymore.

    Thoughts????

Try in the injuries and rehab section, maybe it'd be better for an answer there.

wow, sounds serious. how old are you bro? arthritis already? are you a marathon runner? what did your doc give you?

some things you might try: arcoxia or celebrex, glucosamine/chondroitin, hyaluronate knee injection...

How bout some full BW to start with to see if there's a cause. I'm interested in your E2 assay as well as your CRP level among others. There may be a reason for it in your BW that won't show on an xray. MSM powder helps for joints as does DMSO topical. Look into peptide TB-500 as well. Do some research as some of these may help you.

    Knee pain SUCKS!

    kel

I am 34.They attribute it to bad genetics and I have been playing basketball since I am 12 and not stretching my quads properly. I re read my post and I forgot to say that I knew that my left knee was suffering but the right seemed to be good.

I am a little past due on blood. I havent had in about 5 months. I know too long but its looked good for the past 12 months. I start going to a new endo dr 4/11 so I figured they would pull blood then.

    Thanks for the advice guys

They want me to go to physical therapy which is a waste bc I know how to strengthing the msucles around my knee to take the pain away. I take glucose already and they want me to start getting lubricant to help

therapy will help you to strengthen your muscles without putting further stress on the knee joint, like straight leg or isometric exercises.

if there is any patella mal-alignment, you may need to strengthening one side of your quad more than the other.

if there is any torn ligaments that started the early arthritis, you may need to repair the ligament surgically.

    good luck

Good points. Its really tough to find good PT. I have been to so many and they all do the same shit. Electronic stimulation and then stick you on a machine and then pay them 40 bucks,

    +1

I had a Dr do and MRI and said I too had arthritis. He went so far as to say I should play tennis, run, lift, or I'd use up what little cartilage I had left in my knee. I basically said eff this and continued to workout. I found that when I strengthened the outside on my quad the patella became re aligned and my knee pain went away. Funny how that arthritis of mine went away.

Now I'm not Dr and I'm not advocation YOU do anything but I felt my Dr was full of it and basically defied his orders and I'm better off for it. If it's unbearable pain I might suggest a second opinion.

Damn bro I understand, had 2 surgeries on left knee about a year apart, they stated I most likely will need a knee replacement at a young age. I'm going to be 32.. My father has had knee surgeries as well and now my son at age 12 been having knee problems for over a year

All the physical therapists i've had have been miracle workers lol seriously. Maybe you haven't found the right one. The supps kel suggested will probably do wonders for you though. NOW foods sells a Hyualoric acid/msm pill so try looking into that.

    Best exercise for now-cycling

You are on a cut...get to a bike club...do a mix of high anaerobic hill climbing (puke time) or long rides (lance Armstrong-enhanced or not who cares-6 hours a day on a bike going 30 mph???? )That's going to cut u up faster than anything.

Biking - non impact, easy in the joints, great on cv system, look at a muscular sprinter legs and tell me biking can't build legs...

PT-shop around. There are good ones out there. Hungry ones in smaller clinics can be overachievers. Salaried ones in dr owned clinics or big clinics with many patients are often more worried about getting paperwork done....which is the same for many professions.

Cycling-movement will help stimulate cartilage growth, non impact will prevent damage, the endurance will burn you so skinny ur be on mag covers...

Spinning / cycling classes at a gym also great. U can work as hard as you want...and then remember...spin the pedal in a circle... Don't just push...hard to explain but if you float on the pedals through 360 degrees of each legs turn you will find ur knees not aching, you will exercise the whole leg, you will get very tired, and have a great workout...and let the heals stretch down a big at first, more as you build up ur calves...

I was thinking of doing morning spin classes for my fasted for the next few months while cutting squats and leg presses out. Cutting basketball back to 2x's a month. I am going to look into better braces also. I am going to try and get down to 200lbs

    Thanks for the info!

Played basketball / volleyball / jumping sports my whole life....but cv and legs felt great after lots of miles on the road...best change from the pounding and grinding ever.
Weights trains slow strength, basketball needs speed and endurance. Cycling is a nice easy change for the legs

I have the same problem- having knee surgery in 3 weeks. I'm working on figuring out a routine I can do for quads, hams, and calves. Been researching for a few weeks. Trying to come up with a full routine that is minimal impact on the knees. My knee buckles under my own body weight and I have to wear a brace 24/7 so.... gotta get creative.

I was doing heavy prowler pushes and it didnt bother me at all. I am going to go back to that and start getting the lubrication shots every 6 months

not every GP does this. only those with significant ortho training.

ortho surgeons can do this for sure.

    pain specialist, maybe not.
