Lower Back Can't Handle Leg Day

The problem is that my lower back can't handle leg day. Squats and dead lifts are the worse on it. I thought that by doing these I would be able to strengthen my core but I ended up just having muscle spasms for a week. I squat just a little more than I bench press simply because my back isn't as strong as my legs and the spinal compression is to much.

Should I just give up on these two lifts? In my experience nothing hits the legs like squats and dead lifts. Has anyone ever had this problem?

No don’t give up on them, however you should be feeling these lifts in you glutes, hams and thighs not lower back. It would be very beneficial if you could post a vid of you performing the lifts. As I would assume the problem is not your lower back being weak, but your form being bad. However without seeing your lifts I can’t critique your form. Good luck.

I will get one of the trainers at the gym to watch me and maybe record it.

Have to agree, most likely a simple change in your form is all that is needed.

My back sometimes feels like it is sore like I worked it out but that's mostly from pushing to o hard on deadlift or because I try to high of a weight on oh press. Anytime something doesn't feel "right" after a workout you would be best to have your form looked at. Just my opinion but it has helped me overcome a lot of simple mistakes and also hit new highs.

good to have him videotape you squatting but beware of most gym trainers advice. incredible shit comes from most of them, stuff like knees dont go past the toes in the squat and so on...

i would bet that your mobility sucks and thats resulting in poor form, definitely get someone to get a video on your phone or whatever then post it. focus on keeping a tight arch in your back while squatting and maybe go lighter on deadlifting so your form doesn't break down so much while pulling keeping a flat back. also look into stretching and mobility work, defrancos agile 8 works for me.

sometimes the issue has nothing to do with form, and everything to do with your physical condition.

years ago, I was having problems playing golf. all that bending and twisting was killing me, so I had a pro golfer give me lessons for an entire summer. he swore that when he was through with me, the pain would go away.

...well, the pain never went away. So i retired my golf clubs. Later, i had xrays and discovered I had three conditions with my back, and correct form wasn't going to fix anything. When it came to lifting I adapted and changed my routine so I could continue lifting, and not be in alot of pain everyday.

So maybe have someone record you doing a set and let us look. but there is a chance that the problem may not be with your form, but instead have something to do with your back.

To be honest, the back is a very delicate part of our support system, and can go wrong in a variety of ways.

    Be smart!

If it hurts, learn to adapt.

^Agreed, But never give up, heavy lifting like squats and dead lifts can actually from better bone density. I would def. try to get a video of your lifts and possibly set up an appointment with a ortho... Just my thoughts. GOOD LUCK!!

Leg day is coming up so I will get a video. My problem may be bad form or I got lazy and lost my form. That is easy to happen when you lift be yourself. I am going to go light because any spinal compression aggravates it, even shoulder press.

I have had my back checked out by a sports medicine doctor. There doesn't seam to be anything structurally wrong with my back. I had this problem before so I have done a lot of lifting on legs other that squat and dead lift. This has left my core weaker than the rest of my body.
