Need your opinions to hopefully shut this idiot up!! lol

Ok, here's the deal, went with a buddy to the gym he just joined to check it out.

We hit the weights and work our way to BB shoulder presses.

He reps 7 or 8 and racks the bar, I sit down bang out 7 or 8 and pause for 2 or 3 quick breaths, bang out 2 more then 3 or 4 more quick breaths and manage to get 1 more rep.

He says those last 3 reps are p*ssy reps and I shouldn't count them lol. I say he doesn't know his ass from his elbow and he starts his next set.

His thinking is that if they are not consecutive with no pausing then its like racking and starting again. I say that its maybe 3 seconds and my muscles are under tension the whole time.

He calls me a b*tch, I call him a f*ckin idiot and we move along to rear delts...

So what's the consensus here? those last reps count? I really can't see any reason why they wouldn't.

    Thanks guys,

    Moto

that's called rest-pause, you caused more damage to your muscles than he did because of those last 3 reps..

have you tried drop sets before? where, after your set you take weight off then go again, little-no rest.. triple drop sets is where the pain is at, go to failure on each set, 1 working set is enough

why would 2 grown men fight over such things

whether you count it or not, you definitely did more work in that set than him. the main point of going to the gym is not to count numbers, but to exhaust your muscle fibers in the most efficient/effective way.

I think the two of you make a nice couple and you should consummate the relationship

"Looking for new training partner" that's what your face book status thing needs to say. That is, if your one of the cool kids and have a face book.

Don't actually train with that guy much, just checking out the new gym. wasn't much for building muscle, but the 300 or so women on treadmills and steppers sure does build a hard on. I usually lift at home so its been a while since ive seen the "show" at a legit gym lol

I got you buddy. One of the best investments in my opinion is buying a squat rack and lots of weights for your house. You can lift anytime and not have to deal with any bull shit. Sounds like you are training hard my friend!
