Hitch or catch in shoulder for a month! Help please!!!
Hello guys, this may be a stupid question but having never had a training injury before I am not quite sure what is going on. Was doing shrugs a little over a month ago, the next day noticed my shoulder hurt during certain range of motion. If I rotated it hundred and 80° when at about the 9 o'clock position got pretty sharp pain. I have continued to be able to work out and really need to as IM about a third of the way through a cycle. I had kind of assumed it would go away over time but it seems to be staying about the same pain level and in the same spot within range of motion. The pain is not unbearable but it is pretty strong. I don't know whether it is a pulled muscle or pinched nerve. Much less what to do for it, and if I need to discontinue lifting. If any of you guys have some insight, solutions, or recommendations I could certainly use them.
Thanks - Rod

sounds like a micro tear and yes you should stay off that muscles. avoid all work outs that uses that muscles. it sucks I know but there is no way around it. how much weight and what were you doing for shrugs? BTW, if its a major tear you wouldn't be able to use it at all, but since you say you can still workout I am guessing its a micro tear and it'll heal in time, but you need to stay off it. also take some pain killers for couple of weeks to help with the pain for your other workouts.

I'll just add that if you find you can't do simple everyday tasks without significant pain or you find yourself compensating for your shoulder by keep it "tucked/pulled in" then you need to get it examined. One of the worst things you could do would be to reduce your range of motion. It could possibly lead to a "frozen" shoulder.
Rest the shoulder....yes. Restrict your range of motion......no.There are 3 loves in my life: my wife, my English mastiffs, and my weightlifting....Man, my wife gets really pissed when I get the 3 confused...
