    Chest

Okay, so my grip on the bar for the bench is a little wider than shoulder width. Been seeing a lot of guys go really wide. I'm sure this hits the chest a lot more, shortening the distance the bar travels, and allowing more weight to be pushed. But is there a risk of injury going really wide.

More weight yes/maybe, but at the expense of full range of motion. As load increases so does risk of injury particularly when going super wide. IMO the grip you currently use (a little wider than shoulder width) is best all around. Same thing with powerlifters who kick up their chest so much that the total distance the bar travels is greatly reduced.

Leave your ego at the door when stepping inside the gym and forget what others are doing.
    Your gains will come bro.
