    Advice conserning abs!

    Hi all.

i´ve been doing a lot of ab workout the last month with great results. I always felt my abs were lagging, so I decided to start every other workout by doing abs. I´m currently doing leglifts/legraises 3x20 reps fallowed by 4x15 crunches in a crunch machine. At first this was extremely hard for me to complete, but it´s getting easier now so I´m wondering if I should change it up. I defenetly want to keep this up, that is starting every other workout day by doing abs since I´m seeing good progress, just wondering if it would be a good idea to change it up, plus the leg lifts are giving my some lower back pain..

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If your training is focused around the big compound lifts I see no need to work and so frequently and much. No matter the training abs are made and shown off through your work in the kitchen. Personally I train 3x/wk and do weighted incline sit-ups one day, weighted leg raises another day, and weighted planks the final day. 3-4sets of each and call it a day. My abs are being worked through squats, deadlifts, press and bench press, power cleans etc.

My abs have never responded to anything like this before, that is, high frequency and volume. I don´t want to make big changes, just something to keep the muscles guessing. I´have been making progress, but my workouts are getting a lot easier, so Im just conserned stalling.

All I do is standard situps on a sit up bench. I do 4 sets, I don't count reps I just go until I can't do anymore because of the burn. IMO as long as you focus on getting a full stretch and tight contraction that is what matters. Work them like any other muscle. I personally don't like leg raises, its hard to keep good form towards the end and my hip flexors and low back start to burn more than my abs. There is really no need to "keep muscles guessing" if its working and giving you gains stick with it.

Muscles don't guess and they don't care what you do. To them all it's about is if you've provided enough of a stressor to force adaptive change or not. As talking comes bc what you do can only provide so much stress. When you advance this stress may be too much or too little to drive adaptation. But the muscles will never guess about anything.

Google for an exercise called "dragon flags".
