Need a new routine.....starting to drift

I have been working out for about 20 years+. Not all of it has been training, some (most) has just been lifting and doing maintenance. The last 2 years have been more training, making gains and size again.

My last 12 months have consisted of high rep, high set to failure. Mon, Wed, Fri

Then about 3 months ago I switched to more of a strength workout. Lower reps, heavy weight to failure with drop sets, and rest pause. Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri

I then switched to High rep, low rest (15-20 near failure, 30-45 seconds rest) for the last 2 weeks. Mon, Tues, Thur, Fri

I now find myself wondering around the gym wondering what to do next. I'm starting to drift. I need to go back to a structured plan. I do well with structure, keeping logs, and disciplined training. I seem to see good results from heavy weight. I am also 43 yo, so I have to be careful of injury. I am not currently on cycle, however, I will go with my second cycle soon.

My diet is good, I am hitting macros of 40 carb/40 prot/20 fats at about 3500 calories. I am 215lb at about 13-15%.

Do you guys have any recommendations?

Go back to the routine you liked the most and if you feel its boring you can change up the exercises or the order of body parts you hit.

I dont think your routines were the problem, it was just you some how lost your motivation. This could be a good time to deload and plan out some new goals.

A lifting partner might just the change you need too if you do not have one and can find one.

Both good thoughts. I still feel motivated. I look forward to my gym time and focus hard on the nutrition everyday. I just need a new disciplined routine. Looking into 5x5 and maybe a few others. Have any of you tried any of the routines out there like 5x5?

Pick one of these if you need a set routine:

However designing your own is not rocket science.

I always like to make my own, and adjust as needed.

As long as you hit all the muscle groups with intensity, its all basically the same.

Your muscles dont know the difference, they only respond to the progressive stress.

If your goal is strength I have had tremendous success with wave loading 7-5-3.

    If you goal is hypertrophy:

That's exactly what I was looking for...perfect. Thanks for the links. I did a search but didn't find this. Lots of great info there. I will take some time and read it over. Some of them I am somewhat familiar with. I will probably write a hybrid program based off 2-3 of them and see how it goes.
