Everyone's body is different. Age, sleep, and drugs play a role also.

I personally don't like to rest the same muscle/group any longer than 3 days.
Listen to your body, its all individual.
However keep in mind that the body responds to stress (within reason), the more stress the more it needs to adapt.

Here's what I do that works for me:
Day 1)
bench
bench flys
lateral flys
rope pull downs
MP
shrugs
reverse curls
Day 2)
leg press
leg curls
leg extensions
seated/standing calves
hip adduction
hip abduction
Day 3)
abs
curls
rows
pull downs - soon switching to pull ups
one arm rows
back flys
reverse situp
day 4)
Rest
So it's a 4 day circuit, and it works for me.
everyone has to find their own way

Roman never rests, he just hits the gym an hour later than normal

oh, I rest.
between sets at the gym, I sit in my leather recliner, put my feet up, and one of the female staff comes over and rubs my feet with heated baby oil. Then as I drink out of my shaker cup, she massages my throat to help facilitate the swallowing action and improve throughput of the liquid down my throat.
well, that's not exactly true, but I'm working on it............ =)

I feel stronger after taking 3 days off when I get back to the gym. My body feels fully healed. I don't do it that as often as I should though.

I've been hitting each muscle group once per week and I'm not getting the results I want. I'm going to try twice week. I like Romans 3 day on 1 off

what is the combined number of reps you do in working sets on a high volume day? - for example a workout for your legs
i think the most common mistake people are doing, is doing way to many reps, too many exercises

I do eod workouts. Chest/ back/ shoulders and arms/ legs. I throw in calf exercises on chest and back day for a little extra growth in that area. Everything else gets worked every 8 days. Intense full failure workouts switching between HIT and high volume.

I've found that if after a heavy overload workout with chains or maybe some reverse bands I can need up to 5 days rest. If doing speed work and assistance work I'm usually good after 2 full rest days. If you go to the gym and you just don't have it that day.........leave. Or do some rehab work to get the blood flowing.
