    Squat shoes

Anybody use these. Shoes such as romaleos etc.. Im 6'3" and have poor calve flexibility. Cant squat without heels raising unless im reallly wide with my feet. Put a plate under my heels and i can. Just wondering if anybody uses these and what are the best option as far as brand

I have the Adidas powerlift 2.0. I've had them over a year now and love them.

How high do u think theyy raise ur heal..comparable to ur heal on a 10lb plate?

They have a 5/8in heel. The plates at my gym are weird, even the 10lb plates are a bit over an inch thick.

Ok. Im thinking ill need 3/4" heel at least.

It's all really trial and error with the heel size. I haven't tried anything but a 5/8in heel so I can't compare it to anything else but I can tell you I love the shoes: they're comfortable, solid support, wooden heel so no sole compressibility issues, etc

I wear the reebok crossfits with a solid raised heal and like them a lot.

At the moment I've been using nike shox and nike air max, because I haven't been able to get around to getting a pair of squat shoes, next Monday I'm buying a pair of Adidas powerlifts thought. I don't need the flexibility but I just squat so much better with a raised heel.

I ordered some pendlay do wins with 3/4" heel. Happened to find a flash sale on them yesterday. Hopefully these will help me out..

Anybody else ever have the problem with herls raising on squats...i literally cannot do a parallel squat without being toes out and extremely wide...ive been constantly stretching my calfs and doin hip mobility stuff for sev weeks now and havent noticed any improvement

Part of the issue maybe with hamstring flexibility. Try doing some dynamic stretches for hams before lifting and static stretching afterwards. Also get a lacrosse ball and work it into the hams before, during and after.

Worst shoes you could wear, heal is way to soft. I forgot my squat shoes once n wrote air max and blew them out. Made a squish noise when i walked after.

Sounds like I don't squat half the weight you do haha. They're the best option I have at the moment, definitely better than barefoot however I'm getting adipowers soon so I'll be able to see the differences soon enough.

I alternate between my chucks and romaleos. Like yourself, I have poor ankle mobility... always have, but I actively stretch them weekly. Depending on your body, and the type of squat you perform kinda determines the shoe you would benefit most from. Ill see if I can post some sources for you, but here's some tips I've picked up-

High Bar squat - lots of benefit from squat shoes since there is a raised heel, usually 0.5-0.75 inch heel. The benefit here is yeah ankle mobility. Imagine standing upright normally. Your ankle and your foot will be at about 90º. With a shoe that has a heel, specifically squat shoes (any other heeled shoe doesnt count) this angle will extend to lets say...115º. Totally arbitrary. So now your ankle doesnt have to bend very far past 90º allowing for that range of motion you now created. Emphasizing the knee break to initiate the squat of course.

just got the do wins black and green last week I have the most inflexibe calvs I've seen it completely changed the squat for me allowed me to bring my stance in while keeping my heels down wich is more like my stance for deadlift were I can produce alot more power then in a wide stance don't think twice if you ankles r that inflexible you'll never look back

hard to say which brand is best. google it and youll find info on different brands with different prices. one things for sure, there worth the investment if youre serious about squatting.

I feel my ankle mobility has increased after I started using them I can body weigh squat much more properly without the shoes just curios if in a few weeks if you notice the same thing. enjoy the shoes there awsome

I like to squat and deadlift barefooted. I feel it gives me superior grip and stability.

I feel alot better when I take 405 off the squat rack and position my feet and go down barefooted than when I do with shoes on.
