bicycle for weight loss, non statinary

So my wife and i got road bikes and we are just starting to ride them, is cycling a good way to loose fat but retain muscle. We ride mostly on flat surfaces but there are a few hills here and there, i would rate intensity 7 out of 10...just wondering if this helps other people alone as cardio to loose weight. We still hit the gym daily.

    Thanks in advance.

Sure it is three days a week you are burning more calories then you were before you had bikes. Weight loss = burning more calories than you take in plus biking is alot of fun.

I love my hybrid, I'm cutting for a comp, I ride to and from work 5.5 miles takes 23 mins each way which burns 350 cals according to map my fitness app, my none work route is about 10 mile - 45 mins 750 cals. Yeah it burns fat as part of a regime, morning fasted is good :-)
