    Calf training rep ranges

Calves have always been the one muscle that has never grown for me. I've always used a similar approach to training them as any other muscle group. 8-12 reps and have experimented with anywhere from once a week to daily training. nothing has done a damn thing for them. Yesterday i went on a short 1.5 mile up hill hike and today my calves are sorer than they've ever been by training them. I also had a insane pump while walking that exceeded anything i get from training them. This makes me question if the key to calves is high volume to ultra high volume. I've never experimented with high reps for any length of time and thinking it might be worth a shot. what do you guys think?

I'm a fan of heavier weight, moderate reps for calves. They get high reps all day in normal life.
Remember, the pump you got from your walk is not indicative of growth. If that were the case, we could all build a great chest doing only push-ups.

I prefer heavy weight till failure. Genetics are key too, some guys have big calfs and some dont. Ive done a calf raise maybe twice in the past 2 months and i get compliments on them. I did play hockey jrA for a few years so that probably helped. My good friend has big calfs and all he does is hike! Try that.

Statics, heavy weight, low reps per set, frequent. Think about it, the calves get extreme "light" volume by walking, running, sitting to standing, etc. If your calves suck, clearly volume isn't the key to unlock the door for you.

There's a reason massively obese people usually have jacked calves. Spend decades with double or even near triple your "normal" mass load, combined with high volume and you will see massive calves.

Luckily I don't even have to worry about calves! For me I've found my legs respond well to higher rep ranges with lots of sets. Everyone is different though

Agree... Everything needs to be proportioned(never lag a BP even if it's a strong characteristic for you) unfortunately I need to work them hard,

Imo never short change a BP!
