Best trap exercises for trap height

My traps are decent but no where like I train for them to be. Could I be over training or is slot of genetics like I hear or read about?

May be you train them too much, may be not enough. What's your routine?

May be your technique, I don't use anything really heavy and focus on full movement and muscle feel.

I know that most people in the gyms that I have lifted in don't shrug very effectively.
They usually do really speedy half reps where they bounce the weight.
Shrugs for growth should be slow with a hard contraction at the top and full extension at the bottom.

^^^^^^Definitely this. People get carried away trying to add weight and do some half assed trap bounce thing that is no where near a proper shrug. Leave the ego at home, use lower weights, learn proper form and you will be rewarded with some awesome traps.

I also agree with lower weight and get the full range of motion with the shrug nice slow controlled shrug with 1-1.5 sec hold at the the top. I tuck my chin to my chest just a bit it allows me to shrug just a bit higher. Hope this helps.

Shrugs with correct technique and moderate weight should be ok.

Dumbbell Shrugs are great for traps. They give you a better ROM than a barbell. Moderate weight and really squeeze the contraction.

I really like power shrugs for traps, it's basically a cheating shrug where you bend over slightly and use some lower back to move the weight, then squeeze like nothing else and let it back down. That and strict DB shrugs + deadlifts.

If you have a shrug bar I use that. So you an load it up like a barbell but the grips are at the side like Dumbell, so you get a better rom
