    Question Calf question

I have a problem with my calves. they arent contacting as much i want them to. When i am at calf raises (standing or seated) i cant feel much contraction in my gastroc. all i feel is intense contraction in my soleus. Is this becuase of stiffness in muscle?? i used to be a taekwondo player and later football player. I used to run a lot and jump rope a hell lottt.. may be thats the reason?? can anyone here help me ?? please guys..i need your expert opinions..

Well, seated's are predominantly a soleus exercise. When it comes to the gastroc what exercises are you doing?

standing calf raises and leg press machine raises.. that involves my gastroc little bit but soleus is get pumped much faster.. especially just below gastroc..painful contraction too early..

That's odd Blade. Next workout attempt to keep your knees totally locked for your standing raises and see if the focus shifts a bit. Report back.

Blade, I'm sure you know this but I used to have the same problem and really focused on stretching my calves every day regardless if I was working them, usually in between sets working other body parts. Also the point angle of my toes impacted this a lot.

When I do calf exercises on the leg press I put my fingers on my calves feel for contraction and take it slow. If you go really fast you will notice very little contraction. Today I was doing seated calf raises with 2 plates and this "bro" came up to me and put 5 plates separated by 2.5's on the machine and would would use his entire body to assist with the exercise needless to say his calves looked like toothpicks.

Do you think you may be going to fast?

Yes I have long toe nails, I have an issue with feet where they gross me out so I cant mentally go though cutting my toe nails or wearing socks.
