    Extended Time Off?

I figured this would get more attention here than in the injuries section.

Has anyone taken an extended amount of time off? I have been training for about 7 years now, and have about 4 injuries I am trying to train around but it's just not happening. I am 41 and there are days I get out of bed thinking wtf am I going to feel like in ten years?

So has anyone taken extended time off? I am thinking like 6-8 weeks.

through all the years I've trained, I've taken lots of extended times off. not always by choice (I've had a bunch of surgeries).. but sometimes I've taken time off by choice as well (which may seem odd being I'm the owner of the gym and the head trainer) just cause of life stuff.

I will say that taking time off is super beneficial to heal tendonitis and joint issues.. if I've been training hard and high volume for months on end I get all sorts of achy joints and tendon issues elbow issue shoulder issues etc.. its hard to work around these things. a good 6 weeks off and I come back to the gym and everything feels great again.

muscle memory is a real thing. 6 weeks off won't make you lose your gains. they will come right back when you go back to training.
when I'm training hard my weight may be 212 pounds.. after time off I may drop down to 192 and be weak and flat looking. but 2 weeks back into the gym and it all starts coming back.

another option is to take some time off , but just go into the gym once per week and do a full body circuit. mainly focusing on your weakest body parts (weak body parts are the first to go). this will allow joints to rest but still allow stimulation to the muscles

Yes. Took a year off once. Didn't hurt a thing. I also routinely take 1-2 weeks off a time or two a year. Does the body good and gives it a chance to heal. Just take it easy coming back when you do.

You could start by taking a week off at a time and see how you progress weekly. You may not need 6-8 wks off but then again you may. During this period focus on diet, nutrition and even cardio if you can.

What if you have to big of an ego to be able to be weak and flat looking?
    Mind game sucks.

its a trade off . I look like shit right now and am flat and weak cause of a shitty summer with crap training and diet. BUT my bum shoulder feels great, my elbows, knees and joints feel great too. once I get back to the grind though, things are likely going to start hurting again, but I'll look good.

seems that once you pass 40 you can't really have both . maybe I could if I trained light weight low volume low intensity , but I can't train like that.
