I have done the flexing a little bit, but I never recorded any data to show if it helps to increase my gains or not, so I can't tell you if it really helps or not. I would guess if you have a hard time isolating the muscle during the workout and your muscles aren't already toxic, then it should help. But if you're muscles are toxic, then you're only going to do more harm than good. I think Weider used to suggest flexing (if that holds any weight with you).
I flex and stretch in between sets because I feel it creates a better mind-muscle connection for myself.
