There are better choices but I like rice myself.

Basmati rice, lowest GI...
Rice is fine. As long as you're using a clean, relatively low GI/GL source, the food choice itself is just splitting hairs. Some choices I like:
oats (favorite), sweet potato, beans/lentils, quinoa (complete protein too, yay!)
Prefer sweet potato as my pre workout carb source. But I eat wholegrain basmati rice everyday too. And oats everyday.
