Marcus-
How do define Digital quality vs proper 35mm film (that I still use,LOL)
Has digital cameras over taken quality in film? If so how is this measured ? (in terms of quality)
Cheers mate ....
I dont really know goose, i think with the lastest equipment you cant go wrong with digital, I am far from an expert on this and ive not even got a DSLR camera yet (new year) but with all the software you can get to edit digital pics i dont think its comparable IMHO,
I know caliphotog is a pro so maybe see what he says/thinks
Ok then, that is Male.
BJJ and his Cryptic clue's... lol.. The man is a walking mystery.. .:)
hey marcus i think you've stopped BB and took over with photography:lol:
What's up dude? The quality of digital vs. film was long ago made a non issue. They both have a different look, but if you are talking pure resolution, any of the newer digital SLR's of the past few years have a higher resolution than 35mm film. Even allot of the consumer point and shoot cameras are now better resolution than 35mm film. If you still want that 35mm film look, it is easily attainable through the use of Photoshop.
It is just like anything else, you get what you pay for. There is still no substitute for knowledge, skill, and practice but with better equipment come superior results. For most of my projects I am currently using a Hasselblad H1 with a Phase One P65+ digital back. That back will yield images that are about 60MB RAW EACH and process out to 350MB EACH! 60.5 mega pixels, with a dynamic range of 12 stops! Okay, now that is CRAZY quality that 99% of people will never need but it just goes to show you how quickly technology is advancing. 6 years ago, I would have seriously laughed at you if you told me that I would give up my Mamiya RZ 6x7 film camera for a digital camera that would give me superior results. It just didn't seem possible. Well... it was and digital quality is amazing these days.
I will post one of those files and show you guys the quality and how much it can crop.
So here is what a full frame from the P65+ looks like...

And here is a crop at 100% of that file...

Here are a few more of my portraits... In case you guys can't tell, 99% of the times I shoot portraits of people, and I LOVE lighting!

Your my hero:wg:
So to include, and finalise and get figures in my head, what is the resolution of 35mm film? What is the resolution of the best digital cameras today?
approximately when did (if you know what camera, your just sick) digital camera match and surpass 35mm film??
Them pictures are just awesome.Talk about mise en scene composition.
Goose, maybe Caliphoto can give you a more technical answer but there is no comparison between film and digital in my eyes, the advantages what digital as over film are is amazing. With digital you can look at the pcitures straight away from the LCD and if its not totally right you can delete it and take it again without it costing you money every time you press the shutter, take as many as you like until you get it spot on or to your liking without wasting film.
You can also edit your pictures with photo editing software like Photoshop/paintshop pro and create some outstanding pictures, you have full control not like with film and you can adjust every part of the picture to get it 100% is a huge advantage. You can also swap from different scene's and change the ISO of the camera by a flick of a button, if you wanted to do that in a film you had to change the film, so going outside to inside without changing a film and getting the pics spot on is another huge advantage, this also goes for white balance, if you are shooting in different lighting just by a flick of a button you can change the white balance instead of changing the film or adding a filter.
I never like changing the fuking film anyway, what a pain that was!
Post some of your pics goose,
