    New gym blows.

Well i am traveling for work and ill be away for about 8 months. I go to the local gym (ballys) yesterday and find out i can't do squat!

I go to the squat rack and the fixed hooks to hold the bar are at very awkward heights. I am 5'6 and the higher hook is so high i have to tip toe to get off the hooks (dangerous when heavy) so i said screw that. I then walked over to the power rack and adjusted the hooks to where i feel it would be OK and it must be setup just like the squat rack. The higher setting is to high and the lower setting is to low (puts back at risk).

    WTF !

Lunges and leg presses bro. But why do they have 'fixed' hooks? I've never been to a Bally's but i heard that they just want your money and no room to workout.

Leg presses and lunges are what i did.

I have the squat rack with fixed hooks.
The power rack has adjustable hooks but the space between each setting in great which makes the height adjustment odd.

I won't risk it. Picking up the weight isn't too bad but when i am tired and going to rerack i have to sort of unlock my back to lower the bar into the lower hook. Not worth it in my eyes.

Would it be impossible to alter your own height by placing weights under your feet? Or maybe if you packed a mini sort of wooden platform in your gym bag you could just put it on the floor when you do squats?

I don't think it would be that hard to do if you get creative..

I am going to open my own gym one day. Its going to be a niche gym for bodybuilders, athletes and powerlifters only. Probably invite only as well. I cant stand corporate gyms with rubber coated plates, only one "arm curl rack" so I can never squat and skinny ass personal trainers running around talking shit and exercising their 45 year old baby boomer with fake tits and a nose job with fitness bands and balance balls.

    No no no!

Its going to be all iron, no rubber bands, no swiss balls. If your in the Power rack and not doing dead lift or squats your automatically banned. And a prone leg curl machine, for gods sake.

Squat rack at my gym doesn't fit me well either. I steal one of the step platforms from the aerobics room and stand on it. Roughly 3in tall. Also works great for calf raises.

I could get one of those step-up things but my concern is still the risk. What if i have a lot if weight on there and go to step back (to get off the plate) and i slip. Again the benefits do not out weight the risk IMO.

I am going to check out that LA fitness next week. Maybe get a free week trial or something.

Just don't squat to failure and even squats with a lighter weight is better than no squats.

x2. Douchey people, descent equipment. Varies by location. All the ones around me are several years old and only one of them has updated/repaired/replaced their equipment. They don't seem to be cock suckers about rules either, as it's corporate owned and no one gives a fk.

Do your squats standing on an exercise ball! This will improve your balance!

I hit a Bally's when I travel. I get a free pass when I stay at the Extended Stay or Homestead Suites. Fortunately leg day falls on a weekend when I can go to my home gym. It's better then no workout.

    You talking about Pittsburgh ?

I checked out the L.A and their equipment looks brand new. The DB's are new and they go up to 120lbs, nice !

I might try it out for a week.
