Check out this MANIMAL that was pounding iron at my gym last night
I was inspired by gymhero's video. I think I'm going to start a video series of douchery at the gym.
The guy in this case was using the full rack to do shrugs with LESS than 200 lbs, he was also using straps to achieve this feat of manpower. He did this for about 15 minutes.

I use straps because the people at the pool table in the bar complain when I steal the chalk .

yep..... A lot of people ask me what I bench and I tell em I don't barbell bench anymore. They always look surprised.....
Also..... a guy at the gym saw me shrugging 245lbs. So he throws on 275lbs and looks at me..... LMFAO! I just kinda smiled and kept on doin my thing..... If it wasn't for skin and bones he wouldn't even have been alive.

Point being that he's using a cage to do shrugs with something weighing less than 200 lbs. There are people waiting for it that could make much better use of it, and he could do what he's doing just as effectively while keeping the weight on a bench, on the floor, or on one of the squat racks.
There is no other place for me to set a 3RM on rackpulls...there is however another place for him to do his shrugs...like the entire 3 floor gym.
Now if he was shrugging 6 plates or something ok I'd understand...but come on.

At my gym a mostly chubby kid with a superman tattoo (I know right), and on the other arm "only god can judge me". We go it, your trashy. Anyway he went to the squat rack lowered everything then put 4 plates on each side strapped up and began to shrug.....his shoulders didnt move an inch. I wanted to flip out so bad.

Did you guys know lifting the weight off the floor isn't the best situation for your back actually it is terrible and doing what he was doing is the most safe for injury prevention.

If you're at the point where lifting 150 off the floor would cause you an injury, perhaps you shouldn't be lifting weights to begin with. You either don't know what you're doing, or your body is in such a fragile state that a gym is the last place you should be.
Furthermore, deadlifts (ie, lifting weight off the floor) are one of the single most important exercises to overall strength. Even so, he wasn't deadlifting, he was shrugging. At the most he'd have to lift the weight off the floor once per each set done, and thats of course assuming he wouldn't use the regular squat rack, dumb bells, a bench, the shrug machine, etc.
How you can justify using an entire cage to do shrugs, when there are many other options available that don't inconvenience others, is beyond me.

Lol, I like the way made it completely obvious you where videoing him lol. I only shrug about 250-280lb's and use the sqaut rack as I feel lifting that off the floor wastes an awful lot of energy. But what really pisses me off is lads that use straps for everything I never use them and or belts every tom dick and harry in ireland seems to use all of the above all of the time. Never got why to be honest.

LMAO... now there's tea on my keyboard dammit.
I don't use a belt, except for heavy full squats. And the last gym I was at only had a smith machine, so I was kind of limited to doing deads and shrugs with it. But when I did, I was using 2-300 for shrugs/deads, etc. Only once did someone mention it, and I asked them to recommend another place in the gym where I could do deadlifts with 365 for reps... He just walked away.
I see a ton of this happening at the local YMCA though.

No the mechanics of lifting off the floor are terrible and you will all see in later years what your back x ray looks like after 15 years of doing that i do and mine looks like shit and have pain. you gotta rember im not saying this to be an ass i see it every day bull shit injuries caused by doing something that could be done in a more safe smarter way.

Because theres only one cage at the gym, but there are however multiple squat racks, movable benches, a shrugging machine, 3 smith machines...plenty of places you can do shrugs, especially considering the light weight he was using. The cage is the only place in my gym where I can set the bar at the proper height to set a 3RM for rackpulls.
