    A good read imo

After watching the Movie Concussion I did a little research into some of the lives of the people depicted in the film.

The film is based upon research into head and brain injuries in players of American Football.

With particular interest in formal NFL center Mike Webster: I found the following writeups that pertain to his life and training:

(They are several pages long, only venture into them if you have the time)

Reflections in Iron: Mike Webster's training methods

    Quotes From Iron Mike Webster:

Another article containing the above links:

Lessons From Mike Webster - Anthony Mychal will help you build the body of your dreams.

I found the story to be wonderful and terrible at the same time. I also found the quotes and the tails of his training and his understanding of tissue damage to be motivational.

Thanks, Ender. I'll be reading these in my spare time. Just briefly skimmed the one that had the described the gym in the bottom of the Inn where he ate freid flounder.
There are 3 loves in my life: my wife, my English mastiffs, and my weightlifting....Man, my wife gets really pissed when I get the 3 confused...

The thing that is missed in this concussion debate and the NFL is this. When I was in graduate school I ran the concussion research and testing lab for a time. At that time concussion was not yet a hot button topic like it is now. And even as a graduate student I really had very little knowledge on the subject, with most of my knowledge being the basic common knowledge and sports myth that is still very prevalent today.

I say all that to say this. Concussion research even 10-15 years ago was still a very immature area of study relative to other health sciences. What we did know, is that most concussions an athlete will suffer is typically before the age of 18. With the most damage occurring during the teenage years. CTE can be found in athletes as young as highschool age. By the time an athlete reaches the pro level, the research then and now shows that most of the brain damage they would sustain has already occurred.

One interesting theory or suggestion that had come out of all this is the proposal to institute weight limits for different positions in football to reduce the forces involved with collisions during normal game play. Much like boxing and other combat sports have.
