    i dabble some

on the platform i use, i can only do a small amount since i do not have a money market account (+25,000 or more)

i have been as of late, gobbling up monthly dividend paying stocks and just reinvesting those dividends when they add up some. it isn't much now, but hoping 20 years down the road it will be

I used to tinker with trading for myself years ago, but back then I had an active subscription to Investors Business Daily, which I found helpful.
Now I just fiddle a little bit inside a brokerage account that is part of my 401k.

I've got a friend that is retired at 50 years old (not from day trading) but he day trades now.
If you have the money to play with you can make some decent money but you can also lose everything quickly. He said as long as do your homework and take educated risks.
He has made $5000 in a few hours but he has also lost $5000 in few hours.

I used to play a little here and there. Had decent success for the amounts I was playing with. I cashed in bigtime on bitcoin and stopped playing.

Didn't you also have some BTC that you had forgotten about that was just sitting on the sidelines and when you remembered it the value had increased?
I may be recalling incorrectly. Whoever it was that was awesome good fortune!

Yes! That's how my BTC journey started, I had one coin that was worth 10 cents many moons ago. Forgot about it until bitcoin was allover the news. Logged in and bam, 14 grand. Played several times after that successfully.

I don't understand what the "blocking" function on the site does if you can still both see each others messages, maybe admin needs to look at that.

Back to the OP.... Never traded.... would love to to but wouldn't know where to start.

Don’t want to hijack this thread but I did have info to ur question. I messaged with admin and suggested an option I had on numerous other forums, which is the block button blocks the person from seeing ur posts of threads entirely. This forum just blocks whatever he writes.....

I've been into trading since the 80's and more or less started with the big UK companies what were going public at the time. My curiosity grew over the years and I went deeper into trading which was mainly stocks and commodities. I don't trade stocks anymore and focus mainly on Forex which is one of the biggest markets in the world which equals volatility, so you can gain these moves if you know how to read the market. I use to day trade FX a lot infact I have a trading station at home where I would analyse the markets on a daily basis. I was a huge scalper of the market and would look for short term volatility to gain profit. This suited my work schedule because I could do this daily and read the market better. Things changed and my schedule increased with many other projects so I started to trade more long term instead of scalping the market I would go with longer term view and take away the noise of the market and look at building positions. If I have a free day and I am fully up to speed with the markets I will scalp the market but you really have to be at your screens daily to do this successfully. I have a friend who was an old school FX bank trader for one of the big banks so I learnt many strategies off him. I have coached many new traders and a couple of these guys actually make a full time living out of the market. I've had some great years trading but IMHO its a constant learning environment.

I did start a thread on FX but it didn't gather speed so I stopped posting my trades and my daily take on the market but you can read of some stuff I do here MS https://forums.steroid.com/crypto-cu...x-trading.html

    Thanks Marcus!

I have been fascinated by it for years but in my mind it always seemed like gambling and by my very nature I’m not a gambler. What changed my mind was sitting down with a buddy and him going through the market and data resources. At that point a switch went off and I saw how data driven it really is. It’s like a never ending science experiment and that’s what drew me in! I was quick to see how someone has to be very skilled and disciplined to execute a plan. The more I learn the more it fascinates me.

I’ll checkout the thread, maybe we can re-energize the thread again!!!

It is gambling if you cant explain why you have took or taking a trade, if you are wishing it to go up or down or you think it will go in either direction without conviction then you shouldn't be trading. This takes a lot of discipline to overcome and stick to your trade management plan, the psychology of trading is huge especially if you're trading with substantial funds. Learning how the market moves and understanding the fundamental and technical analysis what goes into taking a trade is vital for account health. I use data driven moves and try and follow the professional money instead of the retail money. I will piggy back the pro money for short term gains ie scalping & day trading and look at other methods for a longer term view. If I am busy and I cant look at the market it does take me a few days before I feel right to trade again, even though I have alerts on my phone and implement stop loss and take profit triggers I have to feel the market and get up to speed on the news and flow. Its very interesting and please take a look at that thread you will see some of my trades and charts ive posted.

When it comes to cryptocurrencies, my advice is not to daytrade and don't listen to advisors who manipulate you into daytrading as well, they tend to act as oracles and then use that asynchronous info to manipulate the markets. Though if you are interested in trading, consider these Cryptocurrency and Bitcoin Trading Bots https://cryptolinks.com/crypto-trading-bot
