Relatively low fats too.
Examples of clean
protein - GRILLED chicken, steak, tuna, protein shakes, egg whites
Carbs - potatoes, rice cakes, wheat bread, brown rice, oatmeal, fruits, veggies
Fats - peanuts, Flax Seed Oil, egg yolks

People who use that term probably don't really have a good idea of what a good diet is. Eating clean is step 1 to being a master of macronutrient manipulation. It referrs to not eating things that are obviously bad for you.
But nobody seems to have hard evidence of what the best diet is, only what bad diets are. Eating white rice and potatos, cheese and milk, wheat bread and oats could be clean to one person and blaspheme to the next. In fact oats is the only thing on that list I'd even consider eating. In reality your diet should not revolve around grains and dairy. Fish, lean meats, vegetables, tubers, and many nuts are close to ideal foods. The "clean continuum" resides between ideal foods and a bag of cheetoes.
