Its a bird, its a plane.. Nope its another noob with ??'s
Hey all,
First of all - you guys are awesome. There is a wealth of knowledge around here! Which brings be to my second point...
Can you help a noob? I have been reading these (and other fitness) sites for many years off and on when it comes to supplements and I need help. I am a fairly smart guy, but all of the medical talk and abbreviations/slang leave me highly confused.
**Before I get flamed, yes I read the "Starter Pack" and Fellow Austinite's thread on first cycles. I have also spent time reading a lot of the homepage of this website for info. Im still confused. **
Stats: 29 Y/O in a few weeks. 6'1, 210 LBS. ~17-20% BF. yo-yo dieting/lifting for ~7 years, heavy lifting in HS and College. Familiar with supplements, not with steroids .
Goals: 'beach body' not 'hulk'. Quantified, I would imagine that means getting my BF% down to <15% while also increasing muscle definition.
Background: I am recovering from a shoulder injury which kept me from weight training for 6 months. During that time my body transitioned from tone/in shape to flabby and un-muscular. I am still unable to do certain lifts due to pain in my shoulder (Bench, push ups, squats, presses, etc). I am putting a lot of time into cardio (~10+ hrs/week) to lose all the extra fat i gained while injured. I have been running roughly a 600+ calorie deficit for the last 2 months along with an EC stack. Diet has been good.
My problem is that although I am losing some fat (still have a ways to go), I also feel like I am losing all my strength and muscle definition. It sucks, hard core.
_________________________________________________
Summary: I am looking for something to help me maintain muscle/strength (perhaps even boost?) while I continue to recover from injury. Until I am able to really go hard in the gym, I will continue a calorie deficit and try to get my BF% down.
I am scared and unsure about test or any other steroids with a lot of negative side effects. I don't know anyone personally who has done steroids (or at least, they haven't admitted it to me). Because of my inexperience and ignorance, I am hoping you all can help! Reading through everything, Anaval seemed like the perfect solution: Promotes lean muscle, helps lose weight.
Would you guys recommend something like that to me? Are there any supplements available that have similar benefits?

What is the nature of your shoulder injury?
Getting that healed up should be your main priority! Look into TB-500.

Grade 3 (Borderline 4) shoulder separation. Tore the ligaments. Elected not to have surgery. Was told it would take 12+ weeks to heal, but it has taken much longer.
I skimmed through that thread. It looks like TB-500 is something similar to the "deer antler spray" that Ray Lewis used - A remedy to help you heal quicker?
Is that something I can order legally or is it.. harder to find?Last edited by ma_atx; 08-15-2013 at 03:01 PM.

Nothing at all like deer antler spray.
Yes. Legal, reasonably priced, and easy to order from peptide companies.

So no recommendations on how to maintain (perhaps even boost muscle) while losing weight? I kinda thought thats what "cutting" was. Specifically - it looks like thats what Anavar is used for.
I think I am on the tail end of recovery so I was hoping to start something in the next few weeks as I am getting back in shape.

What I bolded is all diet. It has nothing to do with AAS. No one ever wants to hear that though myself included until I got my diet in check. You gotta learn how important it is.
Anavar by itself is going to shut you down ( it seems on here opinions will differ) and it should be run with test. You get your beach body but a penis that doesnt work.

Diet is in pretty good shape. Dinner is whatever the wife makes when ever I get home - but she is a health nut so it is very rarely something fattening. My problem, as I alluded too in the first post, is I feel like I am loosing all my muscle definition right now seeing as I am limited on my lifting.
If not Anavar - is there something similar?

Most people on here dont look at a good diet as what ever the wife makes for dinner. People count out exactly what they eat every day. From cals to macros (protein, carbs, and fat)
When you cant hit the weights you shrink. Really nothing you can do about that. I went away August 1st and since then I have been sick and threw out my back on the first day back to the gym. In 18 days I feel like I have shrunk but the only thing that will get me back in the game is to get better and then get back to my normal routine. I have to go away this weekend and august 1st you would have to force me to keep my shirt on and now its the opposite lol

Prior to injury and letting myself slip in laziness - I did a better job of keeping track. I only tracked protein and cals, though. My wife is health conscious so a normal dinner is a protien (Chicken or Steak, rarely fish), veggies/salad and some sort of filler. I avoid the filler right now due to being on a deficit, so most nights I am eating a lean meat (chicken) and veggies.
I should probably track it more closely. I dont think the diet is out of what though.

Red - Thanks for this suggestion. It has led me to look at other peptides as well. I think I need to spend much more time researching this stuff before committing, but it looks like peptides could help with both things (Getting over injury AND losing weight while preserving muscle).
Im surprised more people didnt recommend peptides when reading this. I must be missing something.
