    Running on workout days

Me and my friend have been arguing about this for a while and i believe hes 100% wrong. Cause he also says a lot of other stupid things. But neither one of us are cycling right now so thats some background.

I like running and i try to run about 2-4 miles(intervals/sprints/jog i switch between that) a day but i take a break once a week on my rest day. Me and my friend are both trying to loose bf right now and his answer to that is eat crap and sit in the sauna for 10mins.

I told him the only way to loose bf is with a good diet and to do cardio but he swears to god that sitting in the sauna for 10mins = the same as my running schedule.

So to end this battle i have with him can someone explain how 2-4 does not = sauna for 10mins

Running will raise your heart rate which will cause your body to tap into fat stores for fuel (assuming your heart rate isnt too high, if it is then it will use muscle for fuel). If you keep your heart rate in the 60-70% range you'll likely burn fat. Im pretty sure sitting in a sauna isnt going to raise your heart rate. Your friend will just be losing water weight which he'll put back on when he drinks something.

Just my thoughts, some of the longer serving guys can probably tell you better than me.

Sitting in the sauna will not have the same effects as running. You really do not have to worry about losing muscle unless your a marathon runner. A couple miles a day is not going to pull a ton of muscle off you. It will keep your heart healthy and hopefully if your diet is ok it will pull some fat off.

Sauna will not have the same effect as running like MuscleScience said. I tend to do a slow jog on a treadmill to get my heart rate up before I lift weights.

Yea thats what i thought. i tried to explain that hes just sitting there in the sauna and sweating but not burning any fat by sitting there. If you could burn fat by just sitting on your ass in the sauna, it would be full every damn day.

I prefer running in the morning without sweating a lot than dying in a sauna.
