Anybody ever try eating raw hamburger meat?

I started eating my hamburger meat raw. It's not that bad really, I seasoned it a little. But you can pound the shit, I can eat like 10 oz in a couple minutes. But here is the thing that I thought was cool, after eating it I felt like a million bucks. Maybe my body took in more nutrients or protein than it was used to since I did not heat it. I ended up eating 20 oz total today raw, in 2 diff meals. I love it, I'm doing it everyday this off season. Everyone always says shit like this is not safe, but with the way they process meat now I think the risk of anything is pretty low.

Let me know how that works for you in 10 years? I would say it wouldn't be bad if you 1. Used only choice cuts of beef 2. you ground it yourself. I wouldn't trust store bought ground beef unless I cooked it first. The more ground up the meat is, the more the surface area is increased exposing it to bacteria.

I buy the super lean cuts myself. I dont know, I've been doing some reading and on one side of the coin people say it's full off bacteria and worms. But then I've read about other people who are damn near 80 yrs old who have done it since kids and NEVER got sick. Or people in other countries accustomed to it. It's like raw eggs, hell I've drank raw eggs for years and NEVER got sick. I think shit gets over exaggerated sometimes.

Something really cool about eating raw red meat I found, it increases red blood cells!! hell yeah

It is called steak tartar. I eat it all the time, but you really can get ****ed up from it. has to be premium meat and has to be from the center of the steak and then packaged quickly. safer to eat steak and sear the outsides. microwave it fro 20 seconds atleast. do something. parasites would be very hard to detect. some people get away with it sure, but many have died and gotten sick. My exgf whole side of the family for example.

I have been to the stomach worm museum...it's in Tokyo.

You would not be eating that stuff raw if you had been with me. That place screwed with my head.

The bacteria that makes you sick is usually on the outside of the meat and gets their when its processed. That's the reason why you can eat steaks rare and its not bad like eating ground beef raw. If it works for you go for it, your a grown man, but it only takes 1 time to get some salmonella or some other bacteria that is gonna make you wish you are dead even if it doesn't kill you.

Yes, steak tartar is very nice once in a while. Only had it twice.

Usually comes served with a raw egg yolk on it.

I would only use Organic grass fed beef, otherwise your asking for trouble. Also microwave it for 20 seconds as mentioned

The standard TDZ (temperature-danger-zone) is between 40 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit; likely the temp you are having this meal at. If the meat is left in this temp. range for 4-hours, bacteria can and will start to thrive and become active. It's harder than people think to get sick from raw meat, or we wouldn't serve tartar in restaurants but there's a few things to keep in mind. You may not have the meat out in this temp-range for that long, but it has likely been out for at least 2-hours in it for processing/packaging/stocking and then the whole cart/register/fridge transition once you become involved. So minimize the time you keep your meat out, lol. Eat is as cold as possible. Secondly, minimize contact with unsanitized counter tops, cutting boards, knives, etc. Provided you are using a very high quality, organic cut, ideally ground yourself in a well cared for kitchen-aid grinder or something and you minimize TDZ exposure, you simply won't run a higher risk of sickness than eating a rare streak.

Now, for those of you who are feeling brave and wanna treat yourself to a Morton's quality beef tar-tar - it's 4 oz. chopped (not ground) prime filet mignon/tenderloin meat. On your plate, in a sanitized stainless steel pastry ring, pack down 2 tbspns. of chopped hard boiled egg mixed with some lemon juice, capers and a tbspn. of minced red onion. Put the tar-tar on top, pack down lightly, take off mold/ring and top w/ micro greens and drizzle balsamic glaze. I remember when I was on a bulking diet a few years ago, working at the capital grille, I ate this meal 3 times per day- in retrospect, it's obscenely high in saturated fat but you live and you learn, it's damn good.

its full of bacteria because its already ground. if you grind it yourself you might lower the chances.

well thanx for your responses, I researched it more and although mixed reviews, many more saying its bad than good. So now I heat in microwave for about a minute, just enough to kill any bacteria. It's still pretty much raw though, but hot!!

If you cook meat it denatures the protein in the meat making it easier for the body to digest and assimilate.

I've got a quick question about "denatures" in relation to protein assimilation. In relation to egg whites. If I take my pasteurized egg whites and drink them straight, I can consume upwards of 30+ a day without getting any gastro-intestinal problems, but if I cook those same eggwhites then its gas city. Does the denaturing of the pasteurired egg protein have any correlation between it relationship to giving you gastro problems, or am I just talking out my ass? It's Sunday, cut me some slack.

Not only is a denatured protein easier for the human body to fully digest and assimilate, it is also easier for the bacteria in the intestines to do so as well. This may help the bacteria to metabolize the cooked proteins better thus producing more gas. That is my guess and I myself may be talking out of my ass.

I have found that if you eat a fiber with these high protein meals, no gas.
I just use metamucil flavored chewables.
