Can't sleep after late workouts!!! WTF!!!

I'm back to training in MMA and the class runs from 7-9pm. When I get home I try to relax for an hour and a half before going to bed. However, whenever I try going to bed I just toss and turn all night long. Is this something my body needs to get use to with the late workouts. I was training earlier in the day around 4pm and never had any issues. Any tips to make this easier?

    Thanks,
    Pete

No I never take naps during the day. I'm usually a great sleeper and get 8 hours/night. However, since training late every night after I train I just toss and turn all night long. Hopefully, my body will just adjust and I'll be fine. I will try meditating as that might help.

Don't think there is much u can do naturally except workout earlier. After working out your cns is still n overdrive for a few hours. Pretty much all over the counter sleep aids are just benadryl(diphydramine, sp) so save some money and buy the cheap stuff. U might have to play with the timeand see how it effects u. I have to take benadryl 12hrs before wake up so I won't be groggy fora couple hours in the morning. Hope that helps

When you exercise it takes the body up to 5 hours to return to normal temp .

I've lifted at night for years and have never been able to go home and sleep within a few hours. I've always attributed it to adrenaline pumping.

Your body is just not use to the new workout routine. Give it a few weeks, you will probly sleep like a baby. The body is an amazing machine, your clock is just alittle off.

Intense physical activity causes an increase in adrenaline release.

Shy away from the sleep aids. A hot bath/ shower to bring your body temp up or a hot drink(milk is the best). Have your room cool. have the drink or shower or bath before you get into bed(about 30/45min).You can trick you're body into it's natural sleep cycle this way.

Eating a bit of cheese has potential to put one out also but might not be for you, depending on your diet.

    Hope that helps.

    Try not to overtrain.

This is completely normal and is one of the biggest benefits of working out. Increase in adrenaline release, serotonin, your body temp rises, etc. This is why most people try and workout in the morning. Obviously if you workout at night this is sucks but unfortunatly there is pretty much nothing you can do about it. All that being said when I used to take my MMA class at night I would come home and sleep like a baby because the class kicked my ass.

also increase in GH, testerone, IGF etc

however the best time to workout is about 2-4 hours people vary between here) after you wake up, since ur CNS system is actually at its optimal and your body isnt fatigued from ur daily activities

ur also at your strongest during this time period

e.g im sure alot of people will find it difficult to train legs heavy about 30mins after waking up, since ur prob still tiered and ur CNS isnt fully into drive

    or

e.g u prob dont like training at 10 o clock at night since u CNS is prob getting tiered by now

just thought it be an interesting fact for anyone wnating to know

anyways mate, i think its just a case of getting use to it, unless u medicate to hurry things up theirs not much you can do, might take time before u get use to it,

id say train earlier but by looks of it thats not an option for you
