Dana White needs to be careful driving big name fighters away isnt going to help the UFC stay on top.
I heard about it last night,
It sucks cause Page is my favorite fighter. I hope he does well in what ever he chooses, but the career of a fighter is short.
I understand both sides to the story though.
The pay scale is and has been going up. 5 years ago, fighters in pride were barley making it. Fighters won't make what other pro athletes make, the sport is too new. But it will take big names to make the sport grow, to make more money for everyone.
If Rampage thinks he can make more money, and support his family better as an actor, so be it. I honestly wish him the best, but I also honestly don't think he will make more as an actor.
He's a athlete, with some god given athletic ability, just raw power. that helps him become one of the best fighters in the world, but it will not help him land any roles in acting. Out side of Mr. T, what roles could rampage really land? Unless he has some god given acting ability too.
What is with fighters and there aspirations to become actors anyway? Lots of NBA, NHL, NFL and MLB players invest there money in business opportunities and have side things going as entrepreneurs. But fighting, leading to acting? I just don't see the connection I guess? is it because Stone Cold made a movie? Because John Cena made 2 crappy movies?
I think with promotions, fighting and shows, Page is probably making over a million a year. But he can't expect to make what Floyd makes, what Lebron makes, MMA is main stream for about 5 years in the states. Boxing and the NBA are sports that have been around for a decade and have tons of promotions behind them from gatoraid, to nike, to good year. Right now MMA has Tap Out and BSM.
Another thing that caught my attention about this was Rampage when he went on his "rampage".
Dana did still stand behind him then, did not judge him or punish him. He beat Rampage to the jail, and got him out, took care of him and did not badger him, stuck up for him in interviews.
He did not lead anyone to believe Page was crazy, but that he was a very religious man, and was fasting.
But J-Dogg, that is when Rampage still wanted to fight with the organization. This is what Dana does, if a fighter will go by Dana's rules and make him lots of money, he will act like he is your brother. But the second you want to do something on your own and do something that makes you happy, he basically makes you seem like a bitch for doing it. I truly believe that he will back stab his own mother to make him look better. I will also miss Rampage and maybe things can still get hashed out but I don't think the trust will ever be there again.
How would u rather earn ur money fighting or pretending ur fighting u need a lot less training for the second one I'd do it a hundred times
in all honesty rampage is acting like a dooshbag thinking he can make it as a actor ,just ask randy couture ... this is bullshit he should just do the movie and still fight and if any movie offers come later down the line then take them ,but be a fighter first.......
I'll bet my balls Rampage is just being a crybaby but Is'nt going anywhere. Him and Dana will make up and all this will be behind us.![]()
Rampage will do like Cung Le 2 great fighters who got plenty of fight in them, still they have to think for the future, they got some movie roles now.
If i was a fighter and reached 30-35 years old and was offered some acting gigs i probably would do the same.
Rampage has way to much to offer to be a simple fighter, he could be anything this guy a stand up comic and would do so much better then Joe Rogan.
All i have to say is never say never.
I don't think what Dana is doing is wrong or bad or unethical to honest.
Like I said, Page is my favorite fighter.
What do you want him to do? start throwing fighters millions of dollars like Affliction did? We saw how well that hashed out. One failed drug test later...
He took Rampage in, and when he was under the organization, he looked out for him. That's the responsibility of a good boss, it's not something he HAD to do, but he did it.
He put a lot of money in Rampages fight. What else could Rampage have done with his life to make a million a year? He was making over 100k a fight, fighting twice a year, it leads to promotions, sponsors, other events. He rewards fighters for fight of the night, knock out of the night. Rampage actually made $325,000 in one fight at UFC 92. At the same event, Rashad made 130k for knocking out Forrest Griffen and winning the belt, about 40% of what Rampage was paid.
As the organization grows, he increases the payouts.
The solution to a problem is not to throw money at it. He's complaining about not be recognized as the "unified" champion after beating Henderson, that he did not get enough fights before beating Chuck and has fought injured.
Honestly, it sounds like he just did not stand up for himself business wise soon enough. He's made enough money now, has 1 other option as Mr. T and suddenly has gained the confidence to stand up for himself and voice his complaints.
If Dana had never given him the opportunities, he would never be considered a house hold name to moderate MMA fans, or be offered any movie roles, commericals, talk shows or soap opera roles.
Rampage has made some money for the UFC, but they have done more for him, than he has for them honestly. There are a lot of fighters out there, a lot of them as exciting to watch as Rampage, but there is really only the UFC right now. Dana has a right to be upset IMO, he just put him on the TUF that is going to receive the move ratings of any TUF ever and he just backed out of the coach fight and probably one of the most anticipated fights of Rampage's career, not to mention with a win bonus, he'd probably make 500k that fight.
If I was rampage? I'd be fighting.
It's a sure bet with fighting for him, he already has contracted fights. he's already setup to make over a million a year.
Pretend fights, what options does he really have? it's less reliable money.
What the fighters should do is create some type of organization among the fighters, that they pay into, try to get a matching fund from the UFC so if a fighter is seriously injured, needs extended time off or a career ending injury, they can afford to appropriate a salary to that fighter to help him out.
If Randy did not make it acting, Rampage never will.
Randy came back to fighting and he has his own training school, clothing line, and can be casted for more roles than rampage could.
What could Page be casted for other than Mr T? Maybe they can remake Rocky III?
They could just as easy have Cheese Burger Eddy cast it though.
Randy Couture stepped away from the Octagon in October 2007 to focus on a career in showbiz. Besides TV acting gigs He has since enjoyed starring roles in Big Stan (2007), Redbelt (2008) and The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior (2008) and roles in Invincible(2006) and the Unit(2007). Randy Couture can be seen next in Mandrake (2009), a highly anticipated blockbuster film about a wily crime-fighting magician.
Looks like Randy Couture made it in acting to me

Dude, you are listing a bunch of stints that he's standing in the back ground. Wasn't he a fill in for a soldier for the trojan army taking the beaches of try behind brad pitt too?
Rampage makes 200-325k a FIGHT. You don't act as a "body guard" in a movie and make that kind of money. In fact, he could probably make more being an actual body guard.
What kind of sponsors or promotional money do you think you make being fighter #8 in Cradle 2 the Grave?
But he's had starring/lead roles in Scorpion king,Big stan, and red belt. Scorpion King was the follow up to the Mummy one with The Rock. Big Stan was the prison movie with The guy from Duece Bigalow. I was just saying that he's made it in acting. If i was Rampage i wouldnt give up fighting, but Randy's had more acting gigs than alot of struggling actors. I bet you he was Payed quite nicely for the starring roles. Plus every time those TV roles come on TV he gets payed. And the King of Queens is in syndication. Plus he's got a lead role in a movie due out soon. Basically He's a working actor. He could make a nice B list career off of it
J-Dogg, I am not talking about the acting career Rampage wants to pursue....I am talking about how Dana will do anything to earn a dollar, and also if you think the UFC gives Rampage more $$$ than Rampage make for the UFC, then we should just stop having this conversation because obviously we have two different views of the business.
I think Rampage just got lied to a few times and they all took their toll.
Damn I didn't think rampage would turn down a title shot like that... I can't believe he's done. Damn that's my favorite fighter.
So Dana wants to make money for the UFC? Sounds like a business Savvy guy, I'd want him running my organization too.
Rampage makes the UFC money NOW, I've never said he did not.
What I did say, is, UFC MADE rampage in the US.
The UFC could have became the UFC it is today with out Rampage Jackson.
Rampage Jackson would be no where near the status he is, with out the UFC.
Dude, nevermind....you are taking aspects of my argument that really don't even mean shit. Basically I was trying to say that Dana feels the need to bad mouth anybody in the public eye and to me that is bad business. That is why Dana is such a douche bag. I am not saying he doesn't run a good business with UFC, obviously he does and he makes them money (thanks in large part to TUF). But you said he did more for Rampage than Rampage did for them.....I disagree or at least think they did an equal amount for each other.
How about another theory? Maybe he as afraid he will have to fight A.Silva soon![]()
Machida woukd KO Anderson Silva!
I really liked Rampage until I saw the last few episodes of that TUF show. This last one was insane. He wasn't there for his guys and he was acting like a baby. I hope there was more to that than meets the eye.
Like maybe that dude said he wanted to be on Rashad's team so that is why Rampage was disrespecting him... or maybe it was the show plot... but if not those two reasons, he is a piece of shit as a coach. I wanted Rampage to beat Rashad, but now, if they had fought, I would want Rashad to kick the shit out of him.
Does anyone else think that this news about rampage retiring implys that perhaps he got beat by Rashad???
Thay are fighting at the end of tuf, right???
Not a huge fan of either of them at this point. Hopefully they hurt each other really bad.
I agree with you man. About the part of Rampage being an awful coach and not being there for him. I thought it was so disrespectful how the guy got beat and Rampage didn't even want to come off of the bar stool to go comfort him. I mean, that must be a really vulnerable time for a fighter, right after they lose. I thought Rashad actually put it very well.
^^^^Rashad showed class when he was the one to comfort pages fighter. PAge showed hi ass.
I think Page is the better fighter of the 2, he's just one of those natrually gifted fighters.
Rashad, certainly the better coach.
Page has not done well as a coach on either season he was on.
Rashad had to work to get to the skill level he's at.
A lot of Page's fighting ability, was just obvious to him and his natural talent makes it obvious. It came easy for him, when it does not come easy to his students, it seems to frustrate him.
Last I heard, he was going to go and try and fight in pride again. From what was said, I belive he makes more money fighting in pride because they "build" up a fighter. You fight 5-10 cans, get paid each time, and get paid the big money at the Grand Prix. So fighting 5-12 times a year, vs 2 times a year.
Pride is long gone Bro.
I would love to see him go to strikeforce and have Fedor fight him, two of my favorite fighters fighting each other....that would be awesome. I wonder what Rampage walks around at.....if they could meet at a catch weight or something.
If Strikeforce picked him up, they could really build up. Page is a really big draw in the UFC, one of the top draws.
Having Fedor, and Page, might start some other fighters coming over. A few bucks into promotions, and it could really cause some frustration to the UFC.
I am not sure if K-1 would be a good choice for page but strikeforce might be...
He will be back soon only taking a little time off
