    Question hydrostatic fat testing help

Hey, just had my fat content done in a portable hydrostatic tank. I am 54 years old, 160 lbs, 5'5" training for 30 years. I want to know if there is a difference in fat content in your body the older you get. I measured out at 14.4 percent and my legs, arms calves, chest and top four rows of abs are
showing along with great vascularity. I am still pinching 12 mm on my abs and kidney, my friend is less cut and measured 10 percent BF but is 28 years old.
I have done the nine point caliper test even on the high side I still come up with 10 percent BF. Could it be possible that either the hydrostatic test was inaccurate on me or is the caliper system that far off. I have been dieting for the last 5 weeks and have dropped about 4 lbs maybe I am not taking in enough fats to get rid of the sticky fat ? Am doing 1 hr of treadmill per day at 2.0 mph at 15 percent incline no hands. Carbs are at 175, fat is at what ever is in 3 cups of oatmeal per day and whatever the amount is in 6oz of
boilded chicken x 4 Also every morning I eat 2 cups of egg whites for my first meal. Not sure if I should add some almonds to my diet any help appreciated.

Hydro and caliper testing results can be very different. My last hydrostatic test said I was 15% bf and the caliper test that was done directly prior said I was 9%. 15% was definitely the correct number but it just goes to show how different they can be.

Hydrostatic is one of the most accurate tests but one of the main things that can mess it up is if you don't push all of the air out of your lungs. I've heard that's a common problem.

I would be interested to see what your other 8 measurements were and what formula was used to figure it out. At 10% your ab pinch will "usually" be less than 12mm.

Correct, if one doesnt exhale completely that can change the readings drastically. Also the skill of the operator can also be a factor. A experienced operator can produce accurate and valid results. Skin fold can also be pretty accurate, but again it depends on the examiner.

DEXA (DXA) scans are being used more and more in studies to determine BF% along with bone density. They are considered more accurate than Hydrostatic weighing and can evaluate specific areas of the body.
